The WNBA offseason has all different meanings when it comes to showing allegiance. Wings’ guard Paige Bueckers showed her support to Texas franchises while Aliyah Boston vowed to support the Indiana Pacers despite Tyrese Haliburton’s season-ending injury. For the Connecticut Sun, the choice was difficult following multiple high-profile franchises in the region.
But Aaliyah Edwards and Saniya Rivers showed their deep connection with Boston as they showed up at TD Garden for the season opener. With the Sun franchise’s sale still a topic of discussion, the players are leaning towards Boston, with an established mega basketball city also willing to absorb the Connecticut team as part of its part.
Aaliyah Edwards And Saniya Rivers Attend Boston Celtics’ Season Opener
The NBA season is underway with the 2024 champions, the Boston Celtics, taking on the Philadelphia 76ers on opening night. While the team tried to show its depth without its star player, Jayson Tatum, they lost the thriller by one point. Among the special attendees in the game, the Connecticut duo stole the spotlight as they cheered for the home side at TD Garden.

The 2025 rookie, Rivers, was excited to be the center of attraction at the TD Garden, as she mentioned that the occasion is ‘amazing’. It was her first time attending an NBA game, which happened to be at the iconic TD Garden. Incidentally, she played at the venue before as a Sun player and reflected on the experience.
“I was overstimulated. When I was in South Carolina my freshman year, they held 10,000 people, so that was probably the most I’ve ever played in front of. Seeing that this arena was full when we played Indiana, it was crazy,” she said.

Edwards, also not new to the spotlight, was excited for the Celtics. A second-year, midseason acquisition came off the bench to bolster the team’s frontcourt depth and remained a key contributor for the side. Aaliyah Edwards also attended the Toronto Raptors pre-season game, igniting the Toronto Tempo linkup. She also expressed love for Toronto after the viral Gradey Dick video.
Aaliyah Edwards Linked With Toronto Tempo
While the WNBA players attending the NBA games have been a common thing in the offseason, the striking hint for the fans was the unique jersey the 23-year-old forward wore at the game. One point that stood out was Aaliyah’s jersey, as she wore a unique Raptors top with denim. She shared a moment with the Raptors’ guard Gradey Dick after the game as the stars talked at length.
The former UConn star played in just 15 games for the Connecticut team. She averaged around five points with limited game time under coach Meziane. It’s obvious that the Sun is looking to develop around the high-performing rookies, and Edwards might not be part of that plan.
