Angel Reese was born on May 6, 2002, in Randallstown, Maryland. From an early age, she was surrounded by basketball—her mother, also named Angel Reese, played the sport at UMBC. Angel quickly developed into one of the top high school players in the country while attending St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.
In high school, Reese was ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the nation by ESPN in the Class of 2020. Her skill, size, and versatility made her one of the most sought-after prospects. She committed to play for the Maryland Terrapins, where she made an immediate impact despite battling injuries during her freshman year.
After two seasons at Maryland, Reese transferred to LSU (Louisiana State University). This move turned into a career-defining decision. In the 2022–23 season, Reese averaged 23.0 points and 15.4 rebounds per game, leading LSU to its first NCAA women’s basketball championship in April 2023. She was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament and became a household name, earning the nickname “Bayou Barbie.”
