Early Life

Born on August 16, 1996, in Columbia, Missouri, Sophie grew up in a basketball family and quickly made a name for herself as one of the best young athletes in the state. She attended Rock Bridge High School, where she led her team to multiple state championships and was considered one of the top recruits in the nation.

College Career at Missouri

Cunningham committed to the University of Missouri, where she became the face of the women’s basketball program. From 2015–2019, she was one of the SEC’s most dominant guards, finishing her career as Missouri’s all-time leading scorer (2,187 points). She was a three-time All-SEC First Team selection and became one of the most decorated players in school history. Her leadership and toughness earned her the nickname “Spicy Sophie.”

WNBA Career

Sophie Cunningham was selected 13th overall in the 2019 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury. Known for her 3-point shooting and aggressive defense, she quickly became a fan favorite.
