The CBA negotiations have become one of the major talking points in the WNBA at the moment. With the athletes protesting vehemently, the situation seems to be approaching a dead end quickly. And if the issue is not solved by October 31, there is a chance that the athletes might opt for a work stoppage. However, despite the situation worsening, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently expressed confidence in resolving the dispute within a reasonable time. And now, Silver had yet another exciting news for the ‘W’ fans.
The WNBA had been in the shadows of the NBA for a long time. However, over the last couple of years, women’s basketball has also been gaining prominence. As Silver hinted that the league was approaching a significant milestone, he asked the authorities to address their existing problems first.
Adam Silver Hints At WNBA Going Global
The NBA commissioner has some good news for the WNBA enthusiasts. With all the controversies surrounding the league under a dark cloud of uncertainty, Silver’s latest announcement came as a breath of fresh air. In a recent announcement, Silver stated that a WNBA game in China might be taking place ‘very soon.’ While speaking with CNBC in Macao, the NBA boss was asked about when China might see a WNBA game on its soil.

Silver replied, “We have to get through a new collective bargaining agreement with our players. But once we do, there’s so much interest in women’s basketball here, I think we’d love to bring a WNBA game to Macao or to mainland China.”

Interestingly, the NBA has already scheduled two of its preseason games in China. And as the popularity of the game soars in the country, the WNBA joining suits will be a fantastic addition. Now, the NBA commissioner had previously made other statements regarding the CBA talks. Recently, Satou Sabally clapped back at Silver for his comments.

Adam Silver Stresses WNBA Growth Amid Ongoing Feud
Despite Sabally having issues with the NBA commissioner’s comments, Silver was pretty clear with his message. In a recent interaction with Gary Washburn, Silver answered questions about the CBA tensions. He immediately labeled whatever had happened until now as ‘unfortunate.’ He also urged the league, including those led by Cathy Engelbert. Moreover, he wanted to set aside the dispute and focus on the overall growth of the league.

“But it’s become too personal and we’re going to have to work through those issues and of course I’ll be available to help in any way I can. I’m not planning to step in at the moment but I have strong relationships with many of the constituent groups in the WNBA. They know the main issue here is getting a new collective bargaining agreement done. And then focusing on collectively how we can continue to grow the WNBA along the same trajectory we’ve seen over the last six years,” Silver said.
Surely, it is evident that the WNBA has plenty of room to expand in the future. However, the first thing the league leadership needs to do is address the existing problems.
