The WNBA is currently in a tricky situation. While the emergence of the likes of Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers has made the league boom, the equal pay calls have been bothering the league significantly. Now, with the CBA deadline approaching, there is a high chance of the players going into a work stoppage. Adding to the woes, A’ja Wilson recently supported Napheesa Collier for her criticism of Cathy Engelbert. Now, to ensure a smooth workflow, NBA commissioner Adam Silver has some important things to say.
One of the biggest reasons for the athletes has been the meager share of revenue they receive at the moment. And at the moment, the situation looks extremely problematic for the league. Thus, trying to get back to the focus on the league, Silver urged the organization to sort out its woes.
Adam Silver Put Stress On WNBA Growth
Silver was recently questioned about the ongoing feud between Cathy Engelbert and the WNBA players by Gary Washburn. Immediately, the NBA commissioner pointed out that whatever has transpired recently has been an ‘unfortunate’ occurrence. Silver stated that the league, along with Engelbert, must work towards sorting out all the differences soon, especially because the WNBA is standing at an all-time high at the moment.

“But it’s become too personal and we’re going to have to work through those issues and of course I’ll be available to help in any way I can. I’m not planning to step in at the moment but I have strong relationships with many of the constituent groups in the WNBA. They know the main issue here is getting a new collective bargaining agreement done. And then focusing on collectively how we can continue to grow the WNBA along the same trajectory we’ve seen over the last six years,” Silver said.

Surely, the athletes are not looking to settle down with the 9% revenue share they are getting at the moment. After all, when compared to the NBA’s 50%, the amount looks like peanuts. And after Collier criticized WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert recently, things have taken quite a dark turn.

Adam Silver’s WNBA Intervention Comes In Time Amid Napheesa Collier-Cathy Engelbert Drama
Silver perhaps did the right job to give his take on the raging issue in the WNBA. He stated that while the likes of Collier are having some issues with Engelbert, the WNBA commissioner has been in charge for a long time and has played a significant role in getting the WNBA to new heights. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the narrative that Collier is going with. In a recent statement, the Minnesota Lynx star accused the WNBA of having the ‘worst leadership.’

“The real threat to our league isn’t money. It isn’t ratings or even missed calls or even physical play. It’s the lack of accountability from the league office. Since I’ve been in the league, you’ve heard the constant concerns about officiating, and it has now reached levels of inconsistency that plague our sport and undermine the integrity in which it operates,” Collier said.
Surely, things are looking quite bleak at the moment. However, with personalities like Silver coming up, it now remains to be seen what happens next.
