The Indiana Fever has been missing Caitlin Clark for a long time. However, Fever is still seen as a title contender despite Clark’s uncertain return. And that is quite an impressive feat because apart from Clark, the likes of Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, and Sophie Cunningham too, have been missing from the lineup. However, filling in for Cunningham, Fever signed with Aerial Powers. And she recently detailed a ‘weird’ experience.
Fever looked quite out of sorts after Cunningham injured her knee. Desperately looking for someone to fill in, they roped in Powers. However, joining the team was not the easiest of things for the 31-year-old.
Aerial Powers Had To Travel A Lot To Sign With Indiana Fever
Indiana might have signed Powers to a seven-day contract. However, in order to sign the same, the 31-year-old traveled almost halfway across the world! Speaking about her experience, the Fever star stated that she was in Turkey when she initially received the news. Immediately, Powers asked the Fever front office about the time within which she had to join. And much to her surprise, it was within just a few days!

“It was actually crazy. I was in Turkey, actually, playing basketball. I got friends out there, and I was just working out. But I was like, ‘Hell yeah, when do you need me?’ And they let me know that it would be in the next few days,” said Powers.

Now, this was quite a hectic task to do for Powers. But the 31-year-old was too excited to join the Indiana Fever. Thus, within a couple of days, she packed all her belongings and joined the team on August 22. Powers even shared a 7-word reaction on her social media soon after signing the contract. However, in a pretty interesting turn of events, the 31-year-old might just become the next ‘enforcer’ in Cunningham’s absence.

Aerial Powers Has What It Takes To Be The New Enforcer
Powers impressed on her debut and looked exactly what the Fever needed from her. Playing for 18 minutes, the 31-year-old chipped in with five points and five rebounds. But most importantly, it was her aggressive nature that caught everyone’s eyes. For reference, she is filling in for Cunningham. And she gained fame for her role as an enforcer. Now, Powers, too, has a similar style of play.

She is also quite well known for having a tendency to step up and protect her teammates. Even if that meant getting involved in a physical altercation. The 31-year-old’s enforcer role was evident last year, when she had a heated exchange with Los Angeles Aces’ Jackie Young. Surely, this looks like an added advantage for the Fever. Having played nine seasons in the WNBA, Powers boasts averages of 10.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
