The Los Angeles Sparks had a heartbreak as they failed to get into the playoffs despite an impressive showing. With their last game remaining, Dearica Hamby sounded positive despite the playoff setback. Unfortunately, things did not hold up to her expectations as Sparks lost their final game against the Las Vegas Aces. Surprisingly, in a stark contrast of fortunes, the Aces cruised to yet another victory as A’ja Wilson took the center stage.
The Aces played their final game against the Sparks. And just like the rest of the season, the game was thoroughly dominated by Vegas. And quite expectedly, the MVP frontrunner, Wilson, once again, added a major feather to her crown.
A’ja Wilson Marches On As MVP Noise Grows Louder
While the scoreline read 103-75 in favor of the Aces, the chunk of the scoring was done by Wilson. The Aces star played for thirty-three minutes and dropped 23 points. And that was not all. She also chipped in with four assists and a whopping 19 rebounds. But right after her fifth point of the evening, Wilson made history. She moved up to third place for most points in a single season.

Wilson surpassed the 919 points by Breanna Stewart back in 2023. Taking to social media, the official handle of the team posted, “M’VP MOVIN’ ON UP With her fifth point tonight, @_ajawilson22 has moved into 3rd for most points in a single season! @WNBA / / #ALLINLV”

Surely, this will serve as a huge boost for Wilson in her bid to win the WNBA MVP this season. Going toe-to-toe with Lynx’s Napheesa Collier, the Aces star has led her team to an impressive 16-game winning streak. While the likes of Wilson and Kelsey Mitchell is soaring in the MVP rankings, Stephen A. Smith is backing Wilson to take the MVP.

Stephen A. Smith Questions In Favor Of A’ja Wilson To Win The MVP
The MVP race this year is pretty intense. While last year, only two players were running for the MVP, this time around, a host of players are in contention. Napheesa Collier, Kelsey Mitchell, and Alyssa Thomas are all expected to go neck-and-neck. However, among all the names, Collier and Wilson have stood out significantly from the pack. And with Collier missing significant game time in the mid-season, the doors opened for Wilson to step in. Wilson even registered herself as the sole WNBA athlete boasting of a 30-20 stat line.

Thus, looking at such dominance from the Aces’ star, Stephen A. Smith could not help but choose Wilson as his choice for the MVP award. “A’ja Wilson is about to win the league MVP, [the Aces are] in third place in the WNBA standings, they’re gonna be a force to be reckoned with. But A’ja Wilson is the truth. She is special. Damn right she’s gonna be MVP again!” Smith said.
Surely, Wilson’s days are looking bright. However, she still has to perform well and lead her team beyond the playoffs to cement herself as the MVP.
