A’ja Wilson led the Las Vegas Aces to their third championship in four seasons. While other players and Becky Hammon also contributed heavily in the ‘unreal’ championship run, the former South Carolina star was the center of the Aces’ recent success.
She received praises from the sports world as NFL great Tom Brady sent a special message for the superstar, and her coach, NBA’s mega star Ja Morant, also crowned Wilson as the WNBA’s GOAT after the title win.
While the Grizzlies man called her the WNBA’s GOAT, many fans compared her achievements with the Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan. The player reflected on the comparison in a recent interview.

The 29-year-old forward had been a revelation for the Aces as the team picked her as the first overall pick in the 2018 WNBA draft. Since then, the forward has been consistent for the franchise, delivering three titles, winning two Finals MVPs, and four regular-season MVP awards. It was but natural that she drew a comparison with MJ.
Wilson opened up on the buzz on the Jennifer Huson show as she said, “It’s crazy. It’s mind-blowing to think that my name could even be in those conversations, as a young girl who hated to sweat and didn’t like the sport. And now it pays my bills. So, I love it.”

“It’s so special, and I’m grateful. God has blessed me with so much. To have my name in those conversations, hey, I’m one blessed girl,” Wilson added.
While the player spoke softly and humbly on the topic, her achievements and performances speak volumes, which is why people compare her to the NBA megastar. By age 29, they both had three championships, plus the Rookie of the Year award and Defensive Player of the Year. All-Star nods were basically yearly occurrences.
She even praised her boyfriend, Bam Adebayo, for his support and guidance in her journey. Well, for him, she is like another NBA legend – Bill Russell.

The Miami Heat star was supporting the Aces’ star at every step and even guided her on her footwork to help her control the paint region. After her championship win, the NBA All-Star spoke highly of her in the interview.

“That’s the thing about shared success. You’re blessed to see somebody have that much success, somebody who they compare to Bill Russell and you talk about how much greatness that they have,” Adebayo said.
This comparison also makes sense as the Aces star won three championships and four MVP awards in just eight seasons. After the 2025 WNBA title win, she joined Russell as the only two players to have won three MVPs and three championships in a four-year span.
