A’ja Wilson has done it. She already made history when she won her MVP award this year. But back then, she knew that her work was only half done. Thus, as the playoffs progressed, Wilson kept on turning up the heat. In Game 2 of the finals, Wilson shattered Candace Parker’s postseason field goal record. And now, as Game 4 concluded, the Aces star is reigning supreme with a host of accolades.
The Las Vegas Aces came into today’s game with a superior 3-0 lead. While they knew that all they needed was a single win, the Phoenix Mercury was still a formidable opponent. Thankfully, with Wilson around, things went pretty smoothly for the Aces as they were crowned the WNBA champions.
A’ja Wilson Shines As The Las Vegas Aces Lift WNBA Title
The Las Vegas Aces are at the top of the WNBA realm at the moment. With a score of 97-86, the Aces completed a 4-0 sweep against the Mercury. And one name, without whom this victory would have been impossible, is surely Wilson. The 29-year-old was phenomenal throughout the series. And quite expectedly, in the finals too, the Aces star reigned supreme.

Wilson dropped a whopping 31 points along with nine rebounds. With such a dominant performance, her overall average across four games came down to 28.5 points and 11.8 rebounds. Surely, there were no other suitors for the Finals MVP than Wilson. And that’s not all. Wilson also set a new scoring record in a single finals series. She has now overtaken Cappie Pondexter, who had 110 points back in 2007.

Now then, as the season comes to a close, a glance at Wilson’s resume will surely make even the best of the bests jealous. After all, she is now a three-time champion, has won the Finals MVP twice, and has also won the MVP award for a record four times. No wonder Becky Hammon compared Wilson to Michael Jordan and LeBron James recently. Meanwhile, as the team celebrates, Wilson recently revealed how Hammon’s advice helped the Aces fix their defensive lapses.

A’ja Wilson Recently Reflected On Crucial Defensive Advice From Becky Hammon
The Aces are now the champions. Thus, one would momentarily overlook all their flaws. However, as they were struggling a bit with their defense, the head coach’s interference became a vital factor. Back in the semis, the Aces lost the opening game to the Indiana Fever. And throughout the series, a depleted Fever side continued to give Las Vegas a hard time. And the same continued in Game 1 of the finals, too.

Thus, it was time for Hammon to step in, and she came up with a master stroke. According to Wilson, the head coach asked the team’s defense to slow down, which did the trick.
“We just slowed it down. We were so up in arms by Game one that we just kind of slowed everything down and was patient for one another on both sides of basketball, particularly on the defensive side, and we had that trust, we’re going to need multiple layers in order for us to be successful, and I think you saw that,” Wilson said.
Thus, with things looking rosy, it is now time for the Las Vegas Aces to rejoice. And as Wilson gets all the limelight, it remains to be seen whether she can keep up with the good work next season.
