It was about a month ago when A’ja Wilson sank an iconic game-winning shot. And with that, the Las Vegas Aces became the WNBA champions for one more time.
While the timing could not be any better, as it was 2.2 left on the clock when Wilson released the ball, it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment as her jersey number is also 22, something that’s almost identical.
However, we could never get enough of talking about the very moment Wilson herself broke it down on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

With the Aces clinching their third title in four years, Wilson’s jumper against the Phoenix Mercury became legendary, and now she’s giving fans the inside scoop.

The game-winning shot in Game 3 of the 2025 WNBA Finals against Phoenix, a 90-88 victory, became a defining moment for the Aces. On ‘The Tonight Show,’ she recounted the play, describing how coach Becky Hammon drew a simple line during a timeout, leaving the execution to her.
Wilson admitted the shot “danced a little bit on the rim” but went in, securing the Aces’ lead with less than a second left.

“It did. It was not pretty, but it went in,” Wilson said.
However, it was not only because of how she orchestrated on the court, Coach Hammon deserves an equal part of the credit, if not greater.
“She’s(Hammon) like, ‘All right, go do it. And I was just like, ‘Do what? Where’s the rest of the play to help us win?’ She’s like, ‘Go ahead.’ And I was just like, ‘Okay.’ And she said, ‘Just make sure there’s no time on the clock for them to go score.’ I said, ‘All right, thanks. I’ll check that off when I’m trying to score a basketball,” she said of coach Becky.
Her 31 points and nine rebounds in Game 4 became one of her most iconic plays, making her the first to record three consecutive games with 25+ points and 10+ rebounds.
No WNBA Player Bothers A’ja Wilson Except One
Despite her dominance, A’ja Wilson named Breanna Stewart as her toughest defensive assignment in the WNBA. On the “Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce” podcast, Wilson acknowledged Stewart’s versatility.
“I’m gonna always say Breanna Stewart. I’m gonna always say Stewie. Only because Stewie is just, she’s a three-level scorer. And the way that she plays the game is so tough to read, because she’s that skillful,” she said.
With that being said, as Wilson prepares for 2026, this matchup could define her defensive legacy.
