Fans of the Las Vegas Aces swiftly grew concerned when star A’ja Wilson crumpled to the floor in the second quarter of their game against the New York Liberty at Barclays Center on Tuesday.
Wilson was going for a layup but got challenged by Liberty’s Leonie Fiebich at the rim. Wilson missed the attempt and crashed to the floor, injuring her right wrist after it bent during the fall.
The three-time MVP was visibly in pain as teammates and staff surrounded her with towels until she stood up. She exited the game after a few more possessions and did not return. The Aces lost to the Liberty with an 87-78 final score.
A’ja Wilson Gives Update On Wrist Injury
On Wednesday, Wilson gave a positive update on her wrist injury after undergoing an MRI. She took a moment to thank her fans on social media and appreciate their support.
“Welp! Nothing wakes you up like the sound of an MRI machine lol! But just wanna say thank you for all the prayers! NYL, thank you so much for the quick help & privacy, I truly appreciate it. To my squad, thank you for preventing any crash out lol! God has a plan that I’ll never question. We are gonna be alright,” wrote Wilson on Threads.

A’ja Wilson’s Impact On The Aces
Aces coach Becky Hammon underscored Wilson’s importance and the need for her to fully recover before returning to action.
“Big picture, our season is bigger than one game. We want to make sure she’s good to go,” said the Aces coach in a report from the Associated Press. “We want to make sure she’s not putting herself at any risk.”
“Obviously, she changes the whole dynamic on both ends of the floor for us. You can’t replace her for sure. Not (with) one person, two, or even three or four.”

Jackie Young echoed the sentiment, describing her veteran teammate as the “heart and soul” of the Aces.
“Whenever a person goes out, we all try to step up. I mean, it’s A’ja Wilson, not one person can just fill that role. We just all try to make it a team effort,” said Young in a report from CBS Sports.
The Aces cannot afford to lose Wilson for an extended period as they’re currently struggling with a middling 9–10 record.
