After a comeback win in Game 1, the Las Vegas Aces had a commanding victory against the Phoenix Mercury in Game 2. A’ja Wilson was again amongst the top scorers with a 28-point performance in just 32 minutes. Behind her offensive burst, the Aces have a comfortable 2-0 lead in the series now. But it was also a monumental individual achievement for the seven-time All-Star.
Wilson broke a rare WNBA Finals record in Game 1 with a double-double outing, while in Game 2, her offensive flair handed her another record in the WNBA Finals. The forward now has 49 points in two playoff games.
A’ja Wilson Sets Scoring Record In WNBA Finals Game 2
In the second home game of the 2025 WNBA Finals series, the Las Vegas Aces put on a defensive clinic as they held the Mercury to just 37 points in the first half. While the team was defending at the defensive end, the superstar forward took care of the offensive end and scored 20 points in the first half.

This was her best scoring performance in the opening half of the WNBA Finals series. With that, she also became only the third player to score 20+points in the first half of the WNBA Finals. Apart from the Aces star, Kahleah Copper (2021) and Angel McCoughtry (2011) were two other stars who had massive first halves in the past.

Ahead of Game 2, A’ja Wilson sent an urgent message to her teammates in the postgame interview. However, the team responded well, putting clinical efforts against the Mercury team to clinch a 91-78 victory at the Michelob ULTRA Arena.

As for the Mercury, they lost consecutive games for the first time in the 2025 postseason and will look to get back into the series with a strong response in the next games. The PHX Arena will host Game 3 on October 8.
A’ja Wilson Enters Top Five In WNBA Playoffs All-Time Scoring List
The reigning MVP is famous for her ability to dominate the games with her scoring prowess. She also has multiple scoring records with her consistent performances and remains one of the top players in the sport. In her 53rd postseason game, the Aces star now has 1106 points. She replaced Maya Moore as the fifth top scorer in WNBA playoff history.
Diana Taurasi leads the list with 1486 points in 73 games, while DeWanna Bonner stands second with 1256 points. Wilson needs 44 points to overtake Tamika Catching and Candace Parker and take third position in the list. The former South Carolina star also ranks sixth in the points per game average (20.9).
With her current form and number of games remaining, the seven-time All-Star could well enter the top 3 before the end of the 2025 season.
