A’ja Wilson has been phenomenal this year in the WNBA. Guiding the Las Vegas Aces towards yet another fabulous run, the team is looking set to challenge the heavyweights for the title. And one name that is giving them the belief to do so is none other than Wilson. The impact of the Aces’ star has been such that Dwyane Wade claimed that Wilson could beat NBA stars in one-on-one play. And now, getting her due reward, the 29-year-old has made her way into the history books.
Wilson has been dominant throughout the season. Thankfully for the Aces, she has carried forward her fine form in the playoffs, too. Facing off against the Seattle Storm, her 29-point game set the tone of the series, as the Aces ultimately triumphed their way into round two. Meanwhile, her recent accomplishment is something that the WNBA veteran will remember for a long time.
A’ja Wilson Officially Announced As The WNBA MVP For 2025
Winning the Most Valuable Award in a competitive league like the WNBA once is an extremely impressive feat. However, to make matters even better, Wilson has done it for a whopping four times now. As the league progressed, the signs were clear. With Napheesa Collier missing out on games due to her injury, Wilson did not let the opportunity slide.

According to updates from Shams Charania, the 29-year-old has become the only player in WNBA history to win the MVP four times. “Breaking: Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson has won the 2025 WNBA MVP award, becoming the first player in league history to win the honor four times, sources tell ESPN,” wrote Charania on X, formerly known as Twitter.

And that’s not all. Records have been tumoring as Wilson took pole position in the MVP listing. Charania further updated that the 29-year-old is now the only player averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds in more than one WNBA season. On top of that, Wilson also scored a whopping 13 30-point games this season. This was also the highest by a WNBA athlete in a season. And while Wilson already received the AP’s MVP for 2025, the Aces star was backed heavily by Stephen A. Smith to lift the MVP award this season.

Stephen A. Smith Backed A’ja Wilson For The 2025 MVP
This year, the WNBA MVP award was one of the toughest and most fiercely contested ones. Apart from Wilson, the likes of Napheesa Collier and Alyssa Thomas were also in the hunt. What’s more? Prominent entities like WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes backed Thomas for the MVP award. On the contrary, the Minnesota Lynx’s coach, Cheryl Reeve, questioned whether Collier would pick up the title this time. But when Stephen A. Smith was asked about the same, he did not have an iota of doubt about who the MVP should be.

Speaking on an episode of ‘First Take,’ Smith made it clear that, given the level of performances delivered, Wilson obviously deserves the MVP. “A’ja Wilson is about to win the league MVP, [the Aces are] in third place in the WNBA standings, they’re gonna be a force to be reckoned with. But A’ja Wilson is the truth. She is special. Damn right she’s gonna be MVP again!” Smith said.
Surely, this is an extremely emotional and proud moment for A’ja Wilson. But with her team’s future hanging in the balance, fans now wait to see how well she justifies her record-breaking MVP status.
