Five season-ending injuries, a tough road to the WNBA finals, and a faceoff against the league MVP – A’ja Wilson. Despite these challenges, the Indiana Fever won the hearts, stretching the Las Vegas Aces to Game 5 overtime. A key reason for this fairytale run was the form of Kelsey Mitchell.
The Fever might even have pulled a win over the Aces, but the fatal blow came when Mitchell exited crucial Game 5 against the Las Vegas Aces with a knee injury. Wilson showed sportsmanship and sent prayers to the fighting guard during the press conference.
A’ja Wilson Sends Prayer To Kelsey Mitchell
The Las Vegas Aces were a team in form, winning 18 straight games to end the 2025 regular season as the second-best team in the league. Yet, the Indiana Fever, with a 24-20 record, posed a challenge to them in both home and away games. The series decider was always going to be entertaining and unpredictable.

ESPN, though, boldly predicted the Aces vs Fever Game 5 result, and at one point, the Fever team was close to proving them wrong once again. However, the injury to Mitchell, midway through the third quarter, handed the hosts an edge in the matchups, which they eventually won in overtime.
Superstar Wilson was sympathetic during the game as she patted the Fever guard twice as the support staff carried her off the field. During the press conference, the Aces forward also had a special mention of Mitchell.
“First off, just prayers for Kelsey Mitchell. That’s my draft partner, and to see her go down like that was not good. So, super prayers to her. She’s had a phenomenal season, and I really hope the Indiana Fever continue to take care of her,” Wilson said.

As per the Fever update, the player was not in condition to return to the court and finished the game with 15 points. The Fever star had a career-best season with the Fever, averaging nearly 21 points per game in the regular season. She upped her scoring to 24 points per game during the playoffs before injury. Wilson also touched on the burning topic in the league right now, showing support for Napheesa Collier for her comments.
A’ja Wilson Shows Support For Napheesa Collier
The Minnesota forward Napheesa Collier was another high-profile injury that affected the Lynx-Mercury series. After exiting the playoffs, the MVP runner-up held a heated press conference, blasting the league leadership and the officiating in the league. Collier later joked about potential fines for her comments, but her words had a profound impact, as many called for Cathy Engelbert’s firing.
Wilson also showed support for Phee’s comments as she said, “I was honestly disgusted by the comments that Cathy made. But at the same time, I’m very appreciative that we have people like Phee in our committee of players’ association representing us, because that’s what we are going to have to continue to make the push to stand on what we believe in.”
On the business end, Wilson will face another MVP competitor, Alyssa Thomas, in the finals, who is looking to win her first WNBA Championship. The series will start on October 3.
