The series was just about to get interesting after the dominance of the Las Vegas Aces in the first two games. But A’ja Wilson ensured that there would not be any drama in her quest for the championship as she made the game-winning shot.
Earlier, Becky Hammon warned the Aces about complacency after securing a 2-0 lead over the Phoenix Mercury, but in Game 3, she drew a perfect play for the four-time MVP to steal the show. But it was not without a word of encouragement as the team gathered in the huddle for the final shot.
A’ja Wilson Talks About Becky Hammon’s Advice
The 29-year-old forward has won many games for the Aces with her all-around play. Her clutch play has been an underrated aspect of the game, but in Game 3 against the Phoenix Mercury, she made a game-winning shot, reminding fans of her clutch play capability.

After the game, in an on-court interview with ESPN, Wilson opened up about the words of encouragement her head coach, Becky Hammon, gave during the timeout. As the Aces’ forward mentioned, Hammon said, “Let’s get it done.”

With five seconds to go in Game 3, the former South Carolina star was able to score a game-winner over 2025 WNBA All-Defensive First team member, Alyssa Thomas, and also DeWanna Bonner. The play was straightforward, getting the ball first to Wilson, allowing her more time to get to her spot and make the shot. The seven-time All-Star made no mistake scoring over two defenders with limited time in hand.

A’ja Wilson Sets Third Record In Three WNBA Finals Games
Although the final shot made history, the star forward remained consistent throughout the game, scoring 34 points and collecting 14 rebounds. She even had four assists and three blocks in the game.
Interestingly, this was her fourth 30-point game or higher in the 2025 playoffs and ninth overall in her career, setting a record for the most 30-point games in the WNBA postseason. In Game 1, the Aces’ forward became the first player to record 20+ points and 10+ rebounds on multiple occasions.
After that, in Game 2, Wilson set another record, scoring 20 points in the first half. Now, with her third record, she is close to another championship and possibly another Finals MVP accolade.
