A’ja Wilson made history as she won a record fourth MVP this year. And while the celebrations had already begun for her, there was still a lot left to achieve. With the Aces in the playoffs, the star athlete knew she had to lead her team on a championship run. And as the finals are underway, it looks like Wilson is determined to win yet another WNBA ring for her team.
The Aces had quite a bit of a jitter as they went into the playoffs. Facing the Indiana Fever in the semis, they lost the initial game. And that’s not all, the entire series was pretty closely fought. However, as Las Vegas is now in the finals, with Wilson spitting fire, things are looking quite rosy for them.
A’ja Wilson Takes Yet Another Record As The Aces March On
Aces have been phenomenal in the finals. Till now, they haven’t given Mercury a chance to make a comeback in the series. As Game 3 began, Phoenix looked reasonably charged up. Trailing by 2-0, the likes of Alyssa Thomas and co. came out all guns blazing. In fact, Thomas recently sent a bold threat to Wilson ahead of Game 3. But the Aces’ ace had other ideas.

Despite fierce competition from Phoenix, it was Wilson who shone the brightest. Playing some sublime basketball, Wilson dropped 17 points, three assists, seven rebounds, and a couple of blocks in the first half. And with it, the 29-year-old star surpassed Candace Parker. Wilson has now taken over the third place for scoring the most field goals in the postseason.

Wilson ultimately ended with 34 points to seal the game. And as the Aces take a 3-0 lead, Wilson herself revealed a secret about her team’s improved performance.
A’ja Wilson Reveals Secret For Aces’ Improved Defense
Wilson and Co. had quite a shaky start to the playoffs. Whether it was their loss against the Fever or a shaky defense in Game 1 of the finals, the team looked vulnerable. However, in Game 2, the team emerged as a defensive powerhouse. Soon after the game, reporters asked Wilson about it, and she explained that Becky Hammon had urged the team to slow down on three-point shooting.

“We just slowed it down. We were so up in arms by Game one that we just kind of slowed everything down and was patient for one another on both sides of basketball, particularly on the defensive side, and we had that trust, we’re going to need multiple layers in order for us to be successful, and I think you saw that,” Wilson said.
Surely, the trick worked. And now, with the team 3-0 up, they just need one more win to win the title. Thus, with a lot at stake, it remains to be seen what happens next.
