Back in the days, Wilson used to play under the mentorship of Staley. In her four seasons for the Gamecocks, the Aces star led South Carolina to a national championship in 2017. Owing to her heroics for her college team, Wilson was recently inducted into the Gamecocks Hall of Fame.
A’ja Wilson Had A Heartfelt Note To Share Following Her HOF Induction
Wilson had been one of the best athletes that the Gamecocks have produced. During her college years, the 2025 WNBA Finals MVP won the SEC Player of the Year award three times—in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Adding to that, she also holds the record of being South Carolina’s all-time highest scorer with 2389 points.

Owing to her massive contributions to the club, the South Carolina Gamecocks Hall of Fame inducted Wilson on October 23, 2025. Elated to receive the award, Wilson expressed her gratitude with a heartfelt social media note saying, “Top Tier blessings.”
And that’s not all. South Carolina has continued to honor Wilson over the years. Back in 2021, they erected a statue of Wilson outside the Colonial Life Arena. Furthermore, the team retired her jersey number 22 in February.
