Indiana Fever fans didn’t forget DeWanna Bonner’s mid-season departure. The player requested a buyout, and the franchise granted her the option to leave. Sophie Cunningham talked about the ‘bitter’ departure, with the vet not trying to keep up with her Indiana teammates. But now there is an additional team name, and that is A’ja Wilson’s Las Vegas Aces.
The superstar’s close friend made bold claims and shed light on Bonner’s failed move to the Aces before landing with the Phoenix Mercury.
A’ja Wilson’s Friend Opens Up On DeWanna Bonner’s Aces Move
The Las Vegas Aces shut down the Phoenix Mercury at Michelob ULTRA Arena on August 21. With that, Wilson and Bonner faced each other. The veteran is nearing her retirement, and the Aces forward is in her peak form. Looking at them playing against each other, the 29-year-old star’s close friend, Deloris, narrated a story about Bonner’s failed move.

As per Deloris, Bonner was close to joining the Aces around July 4, but things didn’t work out in the last minutes. The three-time champion then returned to the Phoenix Mercury, joining forces with her fiancée, Alyssa Thomas.
On her ‘X’ account she wrote, “This is not shade but i have to be honest DB was all but locked to sign with Vegas and join the team around the Fourth of July break That feel thru at the last minute Since that day… Vegas has started to trend up and Phoenix is now out of sorts Was it a mistake?”
While neither Bonner nor Aces commented on the post, her observations about the teams’ situations are accurate. The Aces won nine out of the last 10 games, while their conference rivals won just five games, dropping to fifth place. The Mercury, once the second-placed side, is now looking to hold on to its playoff qualification. Satou Sabally complained about the tight schedule and the lack of rest for the players due to the dip in form.

As for the Aces, the former champions were struggling with postseason qualification, but they no longer had a firm grip on the third position, with seven games left in the regular season. Reigning MVP Wilson is leading them from the front.
A’ja Wilson Powering The Aces To A Strong Finish
The team turned things around post-All-Star break. The former Finals MVP talked about what changed her approach to the games and made them easier for her after the All-Star break. The answer might be surprising for many, but the mindset seems to be working for the Aces.
A’ja Wilson is once again in her MVP form, individually setting multiple records and carrying the team forward with her sheer force. The team’s current run is impressive, with USC coach Dawn Staley warning the league about the Aces’ current form in an ESPN show. She even declared her champion player the MVP of the season.
