A’ja Wilson’s record-breaking Finals MVP led the Las Vegas Aces to a 2025 WNBA title sweep over the Phoenix Mercury. While the host tried to put up a fight in the end, the Aces were in control of the game right from the start.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert mentioned the same in her speech during the trophy presentation ceremony, which was cut short due to fans’ constant interference. The four-time league MVP had a hilarious reaction when fans booed the commissioner.
A’ja Wilson Reacts To Fans’ Booing Cathy Engelbert
The Las Vegas Aces won the cup in commanding fashion, dismantling the Phoenix Mercury at the PHX Arena. As expected, the trophy presentation ceremony was short, but not because of the Aces’ victory at the away arena, but the WNBA Commissioner cut short her speech following fans’ booing.

The Axes’ superstar Wilson couldn’t believe the fans’ reaction and the public humiliation of the WNBA Commissioner. Cameras caught her response as the star made funny faces while in a huddle. Incidentally, she collected the Final MVP and Championship trophy from the WNBA Commissioner.

I’m grateful to have those types of people be able to continue to speak up for us, “Wilson said at the time.

While the WNBA commissioner is looking for support from the fans and players to complete the CBA negotiations before the deadline, such reactions from fans and players are definitely not a good sign. The 9-year-old forward has advice for the senior executive, though.
