The US female basketball team has leveled up in its eliteness significantly in recent times. And all thanks to the WNBA, the quality of the sport has skyrocketed. Now, at the moment, the WNBA is still stuck with a 40-day deadline extension.
But we cannot ignore its contribution to the sport at all. And one of the biggest proofs of the same came recently in the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup. As the arch rivals, the USA and Canada locked horns, it was Allisha Gray, whose sublime antics made it possible for the USA to clinch gold.

Allisha Gray Shines As Team USA Clinches AmeriCup Gold
The 3×3 format is gaining a lot of traction at the moment. With the likes of Unrivaled setting examples for WNBA, it was time to put the practice to the test. And surely enough, the team of Gray, Veronica Burton, Shakira Austin, and Naz Hillmon proved why they are the best in the business right now.
Clashing against their arch-rival Canada, revenge was in the air. With the stakes at an all-time high in the finals, Team USA managed to hold off Canada 21-19 to clinch the gold medal. And a lot of the credit for the same goes to none other than Gray.
She got in a couple of clutch free throws in a crucial phase of the game to ensure that Team USA faced no hiccups. Apart from this, Gray also dropped nine points in the finals. Her overall performance throughout the tournament earned her the tournament MVP honors.

Giving her ample support was Hillmon, who chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds to ensure smooth sailing for the USA. Meanwhile, as Gray continues to celebrate, she has been performing exceptionally well for a long time. And this led Te-Hina Paopao to endorse her as a potential WNBA MVP.

Paige Bueckers might have won the 2025 MVP of the Year. But Gray, too, was pretty much right on the money. Playing for the Atlanta Dream, Gray shocked the WNBA realm after Atlanta handed the Minnesota Lynx a 75-73 defeat back in August 2025.

Incidentally, it was Gray who played a major role in the victory as she dropped 27 points. And soon after this, her fellow teammate Paopao felt that the 30-year-old was an MVP candidate.
“Most valuable player. She’s been putting up numbers like no other at an efficient clip. She’s a hooper, and she’s come up really big in times we needed it, and it’s only up from here. I keep feeding her the rock, and she’s having really big games for us, and we’re proud of her. But the job is not done,” said Paopao.
