The Phoenix Mercury has a lot to cheer about. The ‘refurbished’ team is in second place midway through the season. Two of their star players are performing at the highest level and are syncing well with the team. And the team will have its champion player, DeWanna Bonner, back in the lineup. The happiest player on the roster is her fiancée, Alyssa Thomas.
After a win over the number one team, Lynx, the star forward reacted on reuniting with Bonner, who made her season debut for the Mercury in the July 9 game.
Alyssa Thomas Praises DeWanna Bonner’s Return
After playing in just nine games for the Indiana Fever, DeWanna Boner decided to make a move. She opted to reunite with her first WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury, which occupies second place in the league. Even before her return to the court with the side, fans showered love and appreciation on the veteran forward during a game against the Wings.
During her actual debut, fans cheered their two-time WNBA Champion. Addressing her return to the side, Alyssa Thomas was pleased with the scenes at the Footprint Arena.
“She’s loved here by all the fans. I’m happy for her to get such a warm welcome. As for us, it’s all about staying the course. The goal is to win a championship. It’s gonna be a game-by-game kind of thing,” Thomas said in a post-game interview.

Alyssa Thomas Leading Franchise To Glory Days
The Arizona-based franchise won three WNBA championships in seven seasons and reached the semifinals 11 times between 2007 and 2021. Britney Griner, Diana Taurasi, and DeWanna Bonner were members of this dominant era. But Grinner’s move to Atlanta and Taurasi’s retirement forced the side to make some shrewd changes as they acquired their new stars, AT, and Satou Sabally.

While Sabally is taking care of the offensive end, AT impacts the game at both ends of the floor. She leads the team in assists 1.6) and is currently the league’s leading playmaker with 9.8 assists per game. Averaging 14.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, the Maryland star is also handy at the offensive end.
Return of the franchise’s 2024 top scorer, Kahleah Copper, and the addition of experienced DeWanna Bonner make the side a formidable force in the West.
