There is no stopping Alyssa Thomas. ‘The Engine’ is not just heated up but firing on all the cylinders. The veteran star, playing her first season with the Mercury, made some unforgettable plays and also recorded her 100th double-double in the 2025 season. The star is nearly averaging a triple-double in the season and breaking records in most of those games.
Already leading the race for the most triple-doubles in the league, AT now set a franchise record for assists during the game against the Golden State Valkyries.
Alyssa Thomas Sets Phoenix Mercury Assists Record
Many eyes are on Napheesa Collier and A’ja Wilson for the regular-season MVP award, but the Phoenix Mercury star is also making a serious push for the accolade. Averaging a career-high 16 points and 9.2 assists per game, she single-handedly leads the team to a fourth-place finish with a 22-14 record.

The star is setting high standards for the league with her record-setting sixth triple-double in a season—the most by a player in a single season. AT held the previous record (6) and could surpass it this season only. Her sixth triple-double came against the expansion team, the Golden State Valkyries, following a 13-point, 12-rebound, and 16-assist burst. This was her 17th career triple-double, extending her triple-double record.
Alyssa Thomas’ 16-assist performance in the game also set the Phoenix Mercury’s single-game assists record. This is her second 16-assist game and first time for the Mercury side. Caitlin Clark holds the record for most assists in a single season with 19 against the Dallas Wings on July 17, 2024.

Apart from AT, Monique Akona Makani shone with 18 points while Satou Sabally and Kahleah Copper added 12 points each. The Mercury stays on fourth in the league standings while the Valkyries are seventh, with just 0.5 games separating them from seventh and ninth-placed teams.
Alyssa Thomas Could Break Caitlin Clark’s Record
In 2024, Caitlin Clark broke multiple records with her near-flawless game. She broke Alyssa Thomas’ single-season assist record (316 set in 2023) with a total of 337 assists. Now the veteran forward is on the verge of reclaiming her throne. She has 285 Assists in 31 games. With the eight more games in hand, the 33-year-old star needs just 52 assists, which is 6.5 assists per game.
Looking at Thomas’ current form, the star could reclaim the record in six games only. The star is set to lead the side to its fourth championship, and her playmaking plays a vital role in the same.
