The Las Vegas Aces’ 22-point hammering of the Phoenix Mercury is a warning sign for the league – former champions are coming. The side recorded its ninth win in a row, replacing the defending champions at the third position in the league standings. While the record-setter A’ja Wilson continued her dominance on the floor, the only thing that shone for the Arizona team was its ever-dependable forward Alyssa Thomas.
In the challenging game, the star scored 17 points and collected 11 rebounds, completing her 100th double-double in the league. Only seven other players have crossed this magical number in the league’s history.
Alyssa Thomas Records 100th Double-Double In WNBA
The Aces always relied on A’ja Wilson’s offensive production. But against the strong forward line-up, they backed it up with defensive stops. Head coach Becky Hammone put the defense-first strategy against the Phoenix Mercury, choking them to just 22 made baskets in 71 attempts.

The game plan worked well for the hosts, limiting explosive scorers like Kahleah Copper and Satou Sabally, but they couldn’t control Alyssa Thomas, who finished the game with yet another double-double night.
This was AT’s 100th double-double performance and 18th in the season, leading the league with the most double-double games in the 2025 season alongside A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese. In WNBA history, the 33-year-old star became only the eighth player to have 100+ double-doubles.

Tina Charles leads the stats with 199 double-double performances, followed by Sylvia Fowles (193) and Lisa Lesley (157). Candace Parker, A’ja Wilson, and Nneka Ogwumike are also in the elite list. After her incredible performance against the Aces, the Maryland pass-out joins Jonquel Jones, who also has 100 double-double games.
The star already holds the record for most triple-doubles in the league, and with performances like the one against the Aces, she is also in line for the double-double record. Playing her first season at the Mercury, AT became an irreplaceable piece for HC Nate Tibbetts.
Alyssa Thomas Still Remains The Difference Maker
There is a reason the 33-year-old star is called “the Engine.” She excels at collecting rebounds and is an elite playmaker. In the league with guards like Caitlin Clark, Alisha Gray, Syler Diggins, and Natasha Cloud running the offense for their respective teams, the forward tops the assists average.
She also ranks third in rebounds and is among the top 15 in scoring in the 2025 season. Her vision, screen-setting, and passing give the Mercury side an edge over their opponents and higher shooting percentages for the players.
