The Phoenix Mercury are on fire, and Alyssa Thomas is leading the charge. In a 95-60 smackdown of the Indiana Fever last night, Thomas made history. The star power forward became the first player ever to notch three straight triple-doubles.
With the Mercury sitting pretty at 19-11, fourth in the league, her unreal play is fueling their playoff push and turning heads in the MVP race.
Alyssa Thomas Sets WNBA Triple-Double Record
It all went down in the final minutes against the Fever when Thomas zipped a pass to her fiancée, DeWanna Bonner, for a corner three that sealed her 10th assist. The PHX Arena crowd lost it, and Thomas finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.

With 15 career triple-doubles, she’s got more than the next five players combined. She has now left stars like Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark in the dust. Over her last three games, she’s averaged 13.7 points, 11 rebounds, and 10.7 assists on a sizzling 61.5% shooting. Interestingly, the Mercury went on to win all of those games.
Additionally, Phoenix outscored opponents by 73 points with her on the floor. Not only that, her season stats are career highs, and the Mercury are 17-8 when she plays versus 2-3 without her. The Maryland alum is currently averaging 15.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, a league-leading 9.2 assists, and 1.6 steals.
After a calf injury sidelined her early in 2025, Thomas came back swinging. She showed why she’s a three-time MVP top-five finisher. Her trade from the struggling Sun to Phoenix last winter, after she called out their lack of resources, has paid off big. Now, with Minnesota’s Collier out for at least two weeks with an ankle sprain, Thomas is making a late MVP push.

Fueling Phoenix’s Playoff Dreams
While she had the records adding up to her fantastic portfolio, Thomas is all Mercury are hoping for to suit up during their playoff run. With Kahleah Copper and Bonner, she’s formed a dynamic trio, but her do-it-all style sets the tone.

Against the Fever, her versatility opened up the floor, letting Bonner and Copper shine. If Collier’s injury lingers, Thomas’s absurd numbers could make the MVP race a nail-biter. Especially after her runner-up finish to Breanna Stewart in 2023.
If she keeps dishing in the same fashion, scoring, and rebounding like this, the Mercury could make a serious title run.
