There is a lot going on with the WNBA at the moment. As the CBA talks are looking like a dead rubber, things are turning out quite grim for the league. At the moment, the WNBA has asked for a 30-day extension of the deadline.
Unfortunately, despite the WNBPA agreeing to the same, till now, there has been no positive news coming in. Now then, as the WNBA’s future hangs in balance, there are other leagues slowly trying to fill in the void that the WNBA is creating.
Already, the 3-on-3 Unrivaled is getting a lot of attention. While it pays significantly more than the WNBA, players are increasingly aligning themselves with the tournament. And now, to make matters worse, a new Saudi-backed league called Project B will debut next year. Meanwhile, speaking about the same, Angel McCoughtry had a very important question for the WNBA athletes.
Angel McCoughtry Has A Very Important Question For WNBA Athletes
As per the reports, the Saudi-backed league, Project B, is scheduled to debut in November 2026. And already, it is ringing the alarm bells for the WNBA.

In a surprising turn of events, WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike signed with Project B. With it, she became the very first professional to register for the league. While she hasn’t disclosed her exact salary, reports suggest the league offers salaries starting at $2 million.
And this is where former All-Star McCoughtry has asked something very important to all the athletes. Speaking in an episode of the ‘Good Follow’ podcast, the former All-Star stated, “If you’re going to get paid five million, why put your body through playing in the WNBA?”

This is surely a vital question, as the main plea for the CBA talks has been the revenue-sharing model. And if the players do get a better deal in Project B, then it is not good news for the WNBA.
Before Angel McCoughtry, Rachel DeMita Too, Issued A Stern Project B Warning
In a recent statement, DeMita pointed out that Ogwumike’s association with Project B is quite significant. She also pointed out that the league will now attempt to recruit some notable players, such as Caitlin Clark, Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson, and others. With the amount of money Saudi Arabia can bring in, it will be a massive setback for the WNBA.

“I’ll just tell you guys this straight up. If it is truly backed by Saudi money, no other league is going to be able to compete, even the WNBA. No other league is going to be able to compete with the amount of money that they will pay players,” said DeMita.
Almost all of the players involved in WNBA CBA negotiations are now involved with competing leagues.
