The WNBA trade deadline just dropped a bombshell, and Chicago star Angel Reese was all about spreading the love. On August 2, 2025, the Minnesota Lynx, who are killing it with a 24-5 record, snagged Dallas Wings guard DiJonai Carrington in a blockbuster trade.
Reese, who’s been grinding through a rough 7-20 season with the Sky, didn’t miss a beat. She took time out for hyping up her friend’s move to a championship contender with a sweet, supportive message.
Angel Reese Is Happy For DiJonai Carrington
Of late, Carrington had been in trade rumors since Dallas shipped her girlfriend, NaLyssa Smith, to the Las Vegas Aces in June. The defensive beast and 2024 All-Defensive first-teamer had the analysts link her with a couple of top suitors. Reese, who’s gone head-to-head with Carrington in the Unrivaled League and shares a Reebok deal with her, was thrilled to see her land in Minnesota.
DiJonai shared a snap of her in the Wings jersey for one last time, and added an hourglass emoji just to hint that it’s all about time. Taking it to the comment section, the Chi Barbie dropped her love for the star guard.
“happy for you,” Reese commented.
However, the Lynx’s new guard, Carrington, is having an impressive season so far. She has dropped 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals a game this season till her trade. She is a perfect fit for the Lynx, who already have the league’s best defense, giving up just 75.4 points per game.

She’s a lockdown defender who made life tough for Caitlin Clark in last year’s playoffs with the Connecticut Sun, and now she’s joining a squad gunning for a title. Additionally, the trade sent forward Diamond Miller, guard Karlie Samuelson, and a 2027 second-round pick to Dallas. But the Wings had to cut 6-foot-7 center Teaira McCowan to make it work.
For Reese, cheering on Carrington’s big move must feel bittersweet. As her Sky are stuck near the bottom of the standings, 6.5 games out of the playoffs. Still, their friendship, coming through Reebok collabs and Unrivaled matchups, shines through.
Things Could Change Fast For Angel Reese After DiJonai Carrington Trade
While it’s a lovely gesture for WNBA stars to show love and flock together during times of need, on the court, it might be completely different. With Carrington joining a stacked Lynx roster, it’s worth wondering how this trade might shake things up. Especially for Reese and the Sky down the line.
Carrington is now part of a Lynx team led by MVP favorite Napheesa Collier. She would be fitting herself into a backcourt with Courtney Williams and Kayla McBride. It might look like a packed roster, but it is a puzzle coach Cheryl Reeve will love solving. Her defensive skills could be a game-changer in the playoffs, making Minnesota even tougher to beat.

For Reese, who’s been a rebounding machine with 12.6 boards and 14.2 points a game despite a recent back injury, she must suit up. Facing Carrington in two upcoming games against the Lynx won’t be easy.
