The Chicago Sky suffered a bitter loss on Tuesday after bowing to the Washington Mystics, 81-79. And it came like a gut punch for the rookie star Angel Reese.
Mystics forward Shakira Austin won the game after nailing two free throws with 2.8 seconds left. Washington improved to 9-10, including winning four of its last six games. The team has gained more momentum heading into the All-Star break.
The Sky, meanwhile, fell to 5-13. It’s the second-worst record in the WNBA, trailing only the Connecticut Sun, who only have two wins in what has been a disastrous campaign.
Angel Reese Smashes Clipboard in Frustration
With the game tied at 77 with only 29.9 seconds left, Sky forward Angel Reese let out her frustration as she headed to the bench during a coach’s challenge. She angrily slapped the clipboard from conditioning coach Ann Crosby’s hand before barking at her teammates.

After the game, Reese acknowledged the incident. She stressed that she was simply caught in the moment of a hard-fought game.
“Those **** were pissing me off. Shoutout to Ann because she knows it was the heat of the moment and she didn’t let me apologize because she knew! Not happening again though,” Reese tweeted.

The incident didn’t bother the second-year star as she sank two free throws to tie the game at 79 with 14.2 seconds remaining. Unfortunately for them, Austin was fouled in the ensuing possession, leading to the game-winning charities.
Reese had another huge double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds on top of four assists. She recorded her sixth straight double-double and extended her league record of grabbing at least 15 rebounds to six consecutive outings.
Angel Reese’s Fiery Personality
It’s no secret that Reese is one of the more fiery competitors in the WNBA. She’s tenacious on both ends of the floor and doesn’t hide her true feelings.
Her passion has gotten her into trouble several times, even when she was still starring for LSU. But Reese has always been unapologetic about her character, saying she has learned to tune out what other people think of her.
Smashing the clipboard from a coach won’t earn her favors from fans, but as Reese mentioned, it wasn’t a big deal.
After all, she and the Sky have more problems to deal with, particularly their standing.
For what it’s worth, the All-Star break could bode well for Chicago. The team can recharge and regroup before trying to make a late surge to make it to the playoffs.
