Nneka Ogwumike, Napheesa Collier, and Breanna Stewart lead the WNBPA for the ongoing CBA meeting. The players’ association is united in its demands, as many attended the All-Star weekend meeting. While it’s a topic for experienced players who have been in the league long enough to understand its mechanics and workings, many young players, including Angel Reese, also attended the meeting.
The Chicago Sky forward was vocal about the pay raise issue, as she mentioned in the ‘Unapologetically Angel’ podcast. But it was not just for the video; she intends to take it into action.
Angel Reese Wants To Lead Players’ Union
The 23-year-old star was asked about her experience in the meeting and the possibility of leading the association. The rebounding leader was quick to respond and mentioned that it could happen next year.
“I learned so much this past weekend how important it is to speak up and speak your voice. Coming down, I will be a union leader because I know how important it is,” Reese said after the WNBPA’s All-Star weekend CBA meeting.
She added that the league was disrespectful to the players during the meeting and that she is ready to use her platform and voice for the ‘right’. The Chi-town Barbie is one of the most followed athletes in the league. Her followers’ numbers are much higher than those of the league itself.
Even though she showed interest in taking a more active leadership role, she clarified that the WNBPA currently has great leaders who are handling the situation well.

Current Association Leaders Praise Angel Reese For Her Active Participation
It’s not just showing up for the cause but taking steps in the right direction that matters. The Sky forward might have the platform, numbers, and everything to back her as the voice of players and the association. She is playing in her second season and has a lot to learn about the WNBA model.

The former LSU star is aware of that and entered the Common Bargaining Agreement meeting as a learner. The president, Ogwumike, reacted to Reese’s presence and clarified that she was active and asking questions to understand the proceedings. The veteran herself was part of the 2020 CBA meeting and is leading the charge again in 2025.
The 2024 rookie has addressed issues like pay parity, racism, and the need for mental health support within the sport. She has spoken out against the online harassment and unfair media coverage that Black female athletes often face. While she already has support from many veterans and legends of the game regarding online hate, it would be interesting to see her chairing the key position in the WNBPA and speaking up for the players.
