The Mercury might return for the 2025 season, preparing for the championship in the upcoming year. The side will be looking to work on the upgrades with their current roster. But their veteran forward DeWanna Bonner had a different season altogether.
Bonner made a heartbreaking confession about cyberbullying and finding hope with the Phoenix Mercury. Days after the conclusion of the season, she shared a post letting fans know about her feelings about the recent season.
Angel Reese And Natasha Howard React To DeWanna Bonner’s Emotional Post
Close to her possible retirement, the Mercury forward was emotional about her eventful career and especially about her 2025 season, which turned out to be the season of ‘rise from the ashes’. Many criticized her for leaving the Indiana Fever midway through the season, and then her impact on the Mercury team led the team to the WNBA finals.

The 38-year-old star reflected on the season and shared an emotional post, writing, “So much can change in a year. When I look back, I’m amazed by the journey, the highs, the lessons, the pivots, and the quiet wins that didn’t always make the timeline. More than anything, I’m grateful.”
She added that the year tested her, stretched her, and made her stand tall as a woman. She said that she thanked fans and supporters who stayed with her in tough times. Two other players also showed their support, responding to the post.

Angel Reese wrote, “You are the WOMAN we all inspire to be. From your craft to your motherhood to you just being a beautiful, amazing human being. You always have a lil sis in me.”
Indiana Fever forward Natasha Howard also reacted, “DB I’ve always looked up to you and admire you as a person and player! I’m so proud of you! You’ve set records I pray I get to see in my career. Thank you for always pouring in me on and off the court. Keep being the bright light you are tash.”

While the player poured her heart out on the season and her struggles, fan support also kept her going. One of the highlights of her season was the unexpected move to Mercury, and here is what she said about it.
DeWanna Bonner Provides Reason For Leaving Indiana Fever
One of the questionable parts of her 2025 season was her departure from the Indiana Fever. Recently, Lexie Hull couldn’t hide her honest reaction after Bonner’s move away from the Indiana Fever trade. But after getting back to the Phoenix Mercury, the forward responded to the question.
“I mean it’s home. I know I’m going to get the love, the support. Obviously, I know a lot of girls on the team, a lot of ladies on the team. Just excited to be back home, some familiarity around the city and the town. I don’t even know, I just got here like yesterday, so everything’s just kind of sinking in. I just wanted to be back home,” Bonner told the media.
DeWanna Bonner said she chose to sign with the Phoenix Mercury instead of another team because Phoenix is “home.”

While she cleared her reasons, she even thanked the Fever front office for allowing her the trade, but never stayed in touch with the Fever players and rather had fierce relations on the floor.
