The Connecticut Sun and Chicago Sky are already having quite a forgettable WNBA season. Suffering some huge losses this year, both teams are currently stranded as the two bottom-placed outfits. Thus, when these two faced off against each other, fans did not expect a lot of excitement from the game. However, with the game becoming a heated affair, Sky’s Ariel Atkins ended up on the receiving end. And Angel Reese was quick to stand up for her teammate.
Playing in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut made merry. Putting up a spirited show, the Sun defeated Chicago with a scoreline of 71-62. But it was not the actual basketball moments that made the news. Instead, as many as three ejections kept the fans on their toes. And this made Reese get involved as well.
Angel Reese Comes In Support Of Ariel Atkins
Tempers flared significantly as the Sun vs. the Sky game reached a pivotal point. At one point during the game, Sky’s Rebecca Allen had a tussle for the ball with Sun’s Bria Hartley. In the process, the duo tangled, causing the players to lose their tempers. During the altercation, Hartley pushed Allen to the floor. On the way down, Allen grabbed Hartley’s jersey, which resulted in a heated exchange between the two.
But this was not the end of the drama. Even before the dust between the two settled, Ariel Atkins decided to step up. She came charging in to defend her teammate Allen. And as a result, the confrontation ignited once again. With the situation going out of hand, the officials intervened and quickly ejected all three involved in the tussle.

Meanwhile, Reese witnessed all of this sitting on the sidelines. While she could not play a part in the game, the Sky star seemed proud of Atkins. Taking to her social media, Reese posted on X saying, “ARIEL A REAL ONE. BEEN.” Surely, this clearly shows how much Reese appreciated Atkins standing up for her teammate despite her ejection. Now, such a comment might seem like a controversial one from Reese. But this is not Reese’s first time involved in controversies this season.
