It’s been a rough ride for the Chicago Sky this year, but even in the middle of another tough loss, Angel Reese managed to steal the show with a piece of WNBA history. As the Sky fell to the Connecticut Sun, the rookie phenom was the brightest to sign.
The latest loss marked Sky’s 27th defeat of the season, dropping their record to a dismal 9-27. That’s the third-worst mark in the league, and it hurts even more knowing it won’t help their draft stock. But hey, amid all that frustration, Reese pulled off something special.
Angel Reese Makes WNBA Rookie History In Sky’s Loss
Back in action after missing seven games with a back injury, Reese played a full 31 minutes and notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. That was her 19th double-double this season and, get this, her 45th overall in just 60 career games.

That ties her with Tina Charles for the most double-doubles in a player’s first two WNBA seasons. The WNBA shouted it out on X (formerly Twitter).
“With this bucket, Angel Reese notches her 45th career double-double — tying Tina Charles (2010–11) for the most ever across a player’s first two WNBA seasons. It’s her 19th of the season, tying Alyssa Thomas and A’ja Wilson for the league lead. Charles reached 45 in 68 games… Reese does it in just her 60th career game,” the caption read.

Although with the latest feat, Reese is climbing the ranks. She’s already 14th among active players in double-doubles, and no one else in the top 15 has played fewer than 180 games. Additionally, Reese had been easing back in with a minutes restriction, which she wasn’t thrilled about.
Angel Reese Keeps Shining Despite Sky’s Worsening Performance
Despite Reese putting it all on the court, this season jas been brutal for the Sky. With a .250 winning percentage that’s the second-worst in franchise history, only behind their inaugural 2006 squad, the road ahead looks grim.
