As A’ja Wilson’s record-breaking finals MVP led the Aces to victory, one of the most exciting WNBA seasons came to an end. The season saw both the champion New York Liberty and the runners-up from the previous year, the Minnesota Lynx, fail to reach the finals. And with more teams looking to upgrade their roster in the upcoming season, the WNBA draft will provide them with a fine platform. While the 2026 WNBA Draft is expected to bring in a talented roster, there are some who have already taken the spotlight. And Awa Fam is surely one of them.
Surprisingly, Fam is not a popular name in the USA. However, she has definitely stirred up the basketball world enough to garner significant interest from WNBA franchises. After all, Fam, at just 19 years of age, has taken the hooping community by storm.
Awa Fam Impresses With Her Incredible Hooping Talent
Fam plays her professional basketball in Spain. Considering her sublime talent, the teen sensation was given an early call-up to the professional realm. At the age of 15, Fam signed a contract with Valencia to feature in the Liga de Baloncesto in 2021. And soon, Fam proved why she is being hyped so much. In a recent update, Fam was called from the bench to assist Valencia against the IDK Euskotren. And immediately, her impact was visible.

The 19-year-old star finished as the second-highest scorer and also led her team in rebounds. Fam played 25 minutes and dropped 17 points, nine rebounds, one assist, and one steal. And that was not all. Her shooting numbers, too, were incredible. She shot 5-6 from the free throw line and 6-7 from the field.

Paige Bueckers To Get An Able Partner In Awa Fam?
The 2025 Rookie of the Year has been one of the biggest draws of the season. Unfortunately, despite her incredible performance, her team finished last due to a lack of quality athletes within the squad. Now, Wings’ GM Curt Miller wants to rebuild the team around Bueckers. And there is quite a good chance that the Wings would win the lottery this year. With two consecutive worst seasons, Dallas is most likely to get the first pick. And if they get the opportunity to go first, one of the biggest names they can target is Awa Fam.

Standing at 6’4”, Fam will offer her size and physicality to the team. Moreover, her swift footwork, coupled with her impeccable post moves, will surely make Fam an asset for the Wings. Especially, her team-up with Bueckers will come in handy, as the 23-year-old will finally have an able partner to team up with. Thus, with a lot of speculations going around, fans are eager to witness what’s next.
