The CBA talks have been the center of focus for a long time in the WNBA. Since the All-Star Game this year, the players have been asking for equal pay. With Napheesa Collier lashing out at the leadership, the threat of a possible lockout looms large.
Amidst all these, the WNBA leadership has remained quite unhinged. They have recently requested a 30-day extension on the CBA deadline. However, as of now, there has been no positive response forthcoming.
And all of this has resulted in the players targeting Cathy Engelbert. Now, taking a similar stance, the Las Vegas Aces’ head coach, Becky Hammon, too, has called for a change in leadership.
Becky Hammon Hints At Cathy Engelbert’s Resignation
Hammon is currently supposed to be having a great time. After all, it was her tactical brilliance that led the Aces to script a brilliant comeback and ultimately win the title. However, at the moment, the Aces’ head coach appears to be quite concerned about the ongoing CBA fiasco.

In a recent statement to CNBC, Hammon pointed out how the players have lost all hope in the leadership. And thus, the Aces head coach called for a change in the WNBA power dynamics.
“I would say they’re probably going to look for a change in leadership. I just think it might be too fractured at this point. The one thing that the [league] has always stood for is when the players speak, people need to sit up and listen,” Hammon said.

She also pointed out that, following Engelbert’s comments being made public by Collier, her public image has been further damaged at the moment. However, despite the large-scale resignation calls, Engelbert recently reaffirmed her commitment to the league.
Despite Becky Hammon And Others’ Calls, Cathy Engelbert Refuses To Resign
Engelbert is facing the heat at the moment. With Collier calling her out for her lack of accountability, things became pretty much grim. Soon after, the likes of Breanna Stewart and Angel Reese, too, expressed their lack of trust in the leadership.

Such an environment led to rumors circulating that Engelbert might resign from her position as commissioner. However, she herself confirmed that resignation was not on her bucket list for the time being.
“I’ve never been a quitter, never shied away from tough situations,” Engelbert said. “I think leadership, the cream always rises to the top and I’ve always been someone who believes in the fact that we have, if there’s things we need to fix, we’re going to fix ’em. If there’s things the players have a perspective on that they don’t like that we’re doing or I’m doing, we’ll fix.”
