The Las Vegas Aces defeated Connecticut Sun (2022) and New York Liberty (2023) in four games to capture back-to-back titles. Now, in 2025 season when there was a change in the roster, Becky Hammon might have a sweep against the Phoenix Mercury though.
In two games played so far, they have been a dominant force. A’ja Wilson offered a unique analogy to describe the Las Vegas Aces’ journey back to the WNBA Finals. However, the team has only one word written over the 2025 WNBA finals: Unbeatable. But the HC has a warning for her players ahead of Game 3 of the series.
Becky Hammon’s Warning For Las Vegas Aces’ Players
The Las Vegas Aces took care of the home court as they inch closer to the third championship in four seasons under Becky Hammon. The former Aces player has been the team’s most successful coach, who instilled a winning mentality in the team. But she also wants her players to stay grounded and alert until the objective is complete.

“We just don’t want to have a satisfied locker room because we’re not there yet. All we did was do what we’re supposed to do. We’re supposed to take care of our home court,” Hammon said in the post-game interview.
Hammon’s words highlight her championship mentality, which has kept her team at the top of the league in recent history. The players also responded well. The reigning MVP put up an excellent show in both games and set two different WNBA Finals records in that run, putting up another case for the finals MVP Award. Dana Evans and Jackie Young also created history with their gameplay.

As for Nate Tibbett’s team, the Mercury must correct defensive lapses and offensive inconsistencies before they cost them a championship ring. They will look to bounce back in Game 3 at the PHX Arena on October 8.
Becky Hammon Making Perfect Adjustments Against Phoenix Mercury
Having a talented team and guiding it could also be a difference maker in a series like the Aces vs. the Mercury. Both sides have strong starting lineups and benches capable of filling in. So head coaches’ decisions and rotations play an essential role in the stretches of the games.
During Game 1, with the visitors taking advantage of the big players under the rim, the Aces switched to a zone defense, cutting off passes and shifting their positions effectively. In Game 2, the Aces HC put pressure on the ball handlers early on, securing more steals and disrupting the offence.
Nate Tibbetts had been very successful with his game plan for the Mercury team against the Liberty and Lynx, but Hammon’s choices and rotation timings have been very impactful so far.
