A’ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier are two of the top defensive stars in the WNBA, and they both mentioned one player tough to guard on the floor – that’s Breanna Stewart. Wilson highlighted Stewart’s scoring range and gameplay, making it difficult to stop the Liberty forward.
Yet in the 2025 season and even in the ongoing Unrivalled season 2, the veteran forward failed to live up to her standards in one particular aspect of the game.

Breanna Stewart Struggling With One Aspect Of the Game
The New York Liberty star played her first Unrivaled season while battling an injury. While it gave her the benefit of the doubt for not having her usual impactful game, her second-season performance is no different.
Though she scored both game winners for the Mist BC, her struggles from the range is hurting the team’s offence. After two games, Stewart also hasn’t made a three in Unrivaled yet, missing all seven of her attempts.

This has also been the case in the 2025 season, as she battled to connect from the range. The player shot below 30% in the season, whereas her lowest conversion rate was 33%. This struggle impacted her statistics, as she had the lowest number of three-point attempts and scored the fewest points in her career.

In the league, the three-time champion averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game, which are the lowest numbers (even from her rookie season). But the player got backing from her former coach, who believes that Stewie will bounce back from the slump.
Breanna Stewart Receives Backing From Her Former Coach
Even after an early exit from the 2025 WNBA Season, Stewart vowed to stay with the Liberty in the upcoming season. Her UConn HC Geno Auriemma, though, advised her to take shots to get back to her best shooting records.
“Whenever Stewie’s playing in a big game, I expect her to play great, and that hasn’t changed one iota. And I hope they get a really good coach and I hope they put a really good team around her because I think she’s one of the great things in this city, for sure. She’s got to make a shot once in a while. That sucker missed more jump shots this year than I saw her miss in the last seven years,” Auriemma said in his interview.

The coach won four NCAA titles with Breanna Stewart and has full trust in her abilities and capability to get back on the scoring spree. Fans will also be hoping to see the forward thrive on the offensive end of the floor.
