As expected, the WNBA owners gave the players a CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) that they were not happy with. A legend in the sport has also felt the discomfort, and she has tried to lash out at the NBA now. It’s none other than Breanna Stewart. She is a legend in sport, and if she has concerns, then it’s a major issue in the league.
Let’s be honest. It is straight up; it’s not like the owners would want to give what the players want in the end. But with more room for growth and the league growing, the player making objections shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Breanna Stewart Vents Frustration On WNBA Over CBA Negotiations
WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart stated that the Players Association is being “ignored” during the discussions for a new CBA. The WNBA is seeing a spike in popularity thanks to newcomers such as Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Paige Buecker.
The 2025 WNBA season is underway as negotiations for a new CBA proceed. Breanna Stewart is currently the Vice President of the WNBA Players Association. She is one of the key figures playing an important role in the fight for player rights and benefits. As the WNBA expands, bringing in new teams, the league should be giving better contracts to the players.
“Absolutely frustrated. Anytime you go back-and-forth, you’re not expecting to hear that ‘yes’ on the first [proposal], but you’re expecting to have a conversation. They kind of just ignored everything we said,” Breanna Stewart said (via: X/@OwenPence).

Angel Reese and many other players have come forward and spoken about the league’s low compensation in comparison to other leagues. They will expect it as a major sticking point in discussions for the next collective bargaining agreement.

Breanna Stewart Echoed Satou Sabally’s Sentiments On CBA
Before Breanna Stewart, Satou Sabally came forward to address the issue. After the WNBPA rejected the league’s CBA proposal, which was given out last week, Sabally discussed and expressed her criticism. Sabaly loves to see the league growing with the WNBA bringing in new teams. But she wasn’t happy as the league ain’t focusing on teams that are currently in the league.
“We got a proposal from the league, which was honestly a slap in the face,” Sabally said.

“In the union, we got a proposal from the league which was honestly a slap in the face.
"I think we really have to put an emphasis on the players that are in our league now, but I love to see the league growing.”
The WNBA now allows a maximum of 12 players on its roster. Teams can only sign players on hardship contracts if injuries are affecting them. With only a limited number of players, teams will have a hard time keeping up with the players amid any potential letdown. Although there is potential, few opportunities exist owing to a tight roster limit. We’ll wait to see what the WNBA has for the future.
