The New York Liberty’s superstar Breanna Stewart is famous for her blunt and straightforward answers. No hiccups, no whispers, just clear and precise. And the star is Vice President on the WNBPA’s executive committee and holds weight when it comes to dealing with the league.
Spending eight seasons in the league, Stewart knows the ins and outs of the ‘W’. She was part of the change in trends and popularity. So, when it comes to the ongoing CBA negotiations, the NY star once again stands firm on the demands.
Breanna Stewart Sends Strong Message To League Over CBA Negotiations
The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) has been a buzzword in the league. Apart from the plays, it is making headlines on a daily basis. Analysts and celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon. They made their views clear to the public via interviews, social media, and podcasts. However, what matters most to the WNBA is the players’ perspective, and the 30-year-old VP of the WNBPA has again made it clear.
“The W is using the momentum to make sure that whether you’ve been here long enough to understand negotiations from 2020 to negotiations now. From where we started when I had roommates in my rookie season of the league, now flying charter with Delta, to hopefully even reaching new heights in the following seasons, we’re constantly the ones that are using our platforms for better and striving for even more,” Stewart told USA Today.

Breanna Stewart already mentioned that the league’s initial offers were a wasted opportunity to close the deal quickly. She even added that the players know their worth and will not settle for less. The sentiment is the same throughout the league. The players even showed their disagreement with the league’s approach with “Pay Us What You Owe Us” warm-up t-shirts during the All-Star game, too.
The three-time champion leads the negotiations with Napheesa Collier as another vice president and Nneka Ogwumike as president of the WNBPA.

Breanna Stewart’s Financial Growth In The WNBA
It is important to note that the forward is one of the rare group of superstars who played in two different CBA deals. She entered the league in 2016, with the 2014 CBA deal in action. Players voted out of that deal with the 2020 CBA coming into effect. Now, once again, the agreement couldn’t complete its tenure (till 2027). And the league is discussing new terms with the association, with improved financial terms.

The former UConn star shared the room with her teammates, flew commercial jets like a few previous editions’ athletes. Now she enjoys the new era with private transportation facilities and more care for the players.
Starting her career with the Seattle Storm, her rookie salary was $47,711. She signed her first million-dollar-a-season contract in 2020 (after the 2020 CBA). The three-time champion and two-time MVP became the prominent face of the league and signed a $228,000-a-season contract in 2023. Her average salary is $208,000 with the Liberty side, making her 14 the highest paid player in the league.
