As soon as the CBA deal finalization news hit the internet, everyone related to the WNBA fraternity expressed their joy. Irrespective of the terms, fans were happy to see the 2026 season on the floor, while the media began to get more details on the new terms and changes to the proposals. Breanna Stewart was the first WNBPA member to show positive signs of a CBA confirmation, and she also now opened up about the new deal.
Earlier, the Stewart gave a 50-50 chance of getting the season on time, but now, with more effort, it seems a reality that the 2026 WNBA season will tip off on May 8. But the player also seems happy to see her prediction go (partially) wrong.

Breanna Stewart Expresses Satisfaction With New CBA Deal
Attending the UConn Huskies March Madness opener, the four-time national champion looked at peace. After the chaos around the CBA discussions, criticism over her decision to join Fenerbahce and the future of the WNBA, the player was finally smiling on the sidelines.
When asked about her views on the new CBA, Stewart said, “We walked out of the room proud, holding our heads high and knowing that the EC [Executive Committee], our staff, and the league really came to an agreement and a CBA that is going to be historical.”

While everyone was talking about a monumental deal for women in sports, the WNBPA finally got what they were aiming for. “It’s going to create generational wealth, hopefully, but really the opportunity for wealth for all players in the league and for those that had came before us. It’s really hard because when you wanna have a transformational CBA like we did. There are a lot of things that need to be fixed, that need to be better,” Stewart added.

Then she congratulated her WNBPA team behind the scenes, working hard and negotiating with the league for finally reaching their destination. It’s important to note that the new deal duration is for seven years, and with a new economic structure built around revenue sharing and rising salary scales, the deal can deliver more than $1 billion in player salaries and benefits.
While on the court, showing her support for the Huskies, the player also spoke about the potential champion this season.
Breanna Stewart has a clear favorite for the National Championship
The New York Liberty star had been in the final four of March Madness for four years and delivered a championship on every occasion. With four national championships, the player set a record and chose her winner for 2026.
During the interview, Stewart backed her college team and said, “I definitely believe that it’s going to be back-to-back national champions. I think the thing with the team is, like you said, Azzi (Fudd), Sarah (Strong), KK (Arnold), they’ve won, so they know what that felt like. And once you know what that feels like, you want to do it again, and you have more confidence going into March.”

“So I’m really excited to support them and be behind them. And, you know, I’ve got UConn winning on both my brackets, honestly. I’m just bleeding blue all through March at this point,” she added.
The side is on a hot run at the moment and the favorites to win the title, as Geno Auriemma also trusts in his players to deliver a record-extending 13th title.
