The New York Liberty had been knocking on the door for years. In 2023, the side made it to the finals but lost to the LV Aces. But in 2024, the side topped the league and won their first WNBA title, beating the Minnesota Lynx in the Finals.
Looking to defend their title, they added some more versatile players to the lineup. This strengthens the team’s bench and allows coach Brondello a rotation option. Breanna Stewart looked happy with the addition and bragged about her team’s chances in the 2025 playoffs.
Breanna Stewart Pumped Up After NY Liberty’s Signings
The three-time WNBA champion has been in the league for eight years and has seen the changes and competition up close. With teams like the Minnesota Lynx, Indiana Fever, Phoenix Mercury, and LA Sparks stacking up, the Liberty needed to make some adjustments.
The franchise did precisely what was expected. They added players like Emma Meesseman, Stephanie Talbot, and Marine Johanssen to its ranks. These additions boosted its depth and provided much-needed versatility to counter the opposition. Addressing the same, the seven-time All-Star sends a warning message to the league.
“Listen, we wanted to make this team better than it was last year. And I feel like now we have the pieces. We just have to put it together. We’re checking a lot of boxes…If it looks good on paper, that’s one thing. But now we have to make it work on the court, and that’s a challenge we’re all…looking forward to,” She said. While all three players are not from the US, they are well-known Women’s basketball athletes. Johannes, a former Liberty star, won multiple Euro titles and is an elite range shooter. Australian star Stephanie Talbot is a WNBL champion and can fill in multiple positions.
