The WNBA has already witnessed a plethora of injuries this season. From Caitlin Clark to Angel Reese, the scenes have been the same. Unfortunately, the two teams hit worst by injuries were the Indiana Fever and the Dallas Wings. In fact, things went so badly that the Wings faced the risk of WNBA forfeit owing to their depleted side. Sadly enough, with the playoffs kicking off, players continue to suffer injuries, and Breanna Stewart might be the latest victim.
Stewart has already been injured once in the league, which caused her team a lot of problems. While the Liberty took on the Phoenix Mercury in the playoffs, Stewart’s possible injury scare has left the team reeling.
Breanna Stewart Leaves Arena, Keeping Fans And Critics Guessing
The New York Liberty squared off against the Phoenix Mercury in their first playoff game. And while the game was pretty evenly poised, the defending champions managed to walk away with a 79-69 victory. But sadly for New York, it might have come at a heavy cost. With more than three minutes left in the extra time, Stewart successfully converted a tough one-layup over Satou Sabally.

Unfortunately, the contact was brutal, and the Liberty star immediately went down on the floor. However, trying to put up a tough face, Stewart tried to continue but had to give up. Within a minute of her injury, the Liberty star opted out of the game and did not return. Cameras caught the player sitting on the bench with a brace around her knee.

While on the field, Stewart did play her part. She dropped 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists. She also chipped in with a couple of steals as Kennedy Burke came in to replace her. Surely, Liberty would not want to miss its frontline star in the playoffs, especially when Stewart’s previous injury pushed the Liberty to the fourth-worst defensive rating in the WNBA. Thankfully, while the 31-year-old will keep the team on edge, the Liberty dealt well against the Mercury, which they failed to do at the beginning of the month.

Breanna Stewart Lashed Out At Her Team Following Poor Showing Against The Phoenix Mercury
Early in September, things looked extremely sombre for the defending champions. They lost eight out of 14 games played in August. And while the team again succumbed to a regular-season defeat against the Mercury at the beginning of the month, Stewart had some harsh words for her team. Criticizing the performance, she called it sloppy and urged her teammate to bring out the championship-level mentality.

“I think what was said is, like it’s not good enough. It’s not going to cut it, any of the things we’ve done today. This is not championship-level basketball at this point and everybody needs to recognize that and understand that we need to get there and that starts with the mindset and then putting it onto the court,” said Stewart.
Thus, with dark clouds hovering around Breanna Stewart’s injury status, fans now need to see whether she can contribute in the next game. After all, missing her services might prove a little costly for Liberty.
