New York Liberty is facing some serious trouble at the moment. While they are aiming to repeat their last year heroics, the team is faltering. Throughout the season, they have been playing second fiddle to the Minnesota Lynx. And this has prompted some urgent update on the Breanna Stewart injury.
Going against the Lynx, the Liberty bit the dust once more. They lost the game 83-71, which provided a lot of food for thought. Playing with a depleted side, the Liberty has thankfully received good news from Stewart.
Breanna Stewart Coming Back Before Her Birthday?
Stewart suffered the injury while playing against the LA Sparks. Back in late July, Liberty’s coach pointed out that there was no concrete update on her comeback. Surprisingly, within the first week of August, upbeat news came up. And it was none other than the 30-year-old herself delivering the good news.
According to a recent update, the Liberty Star wants to come back before her birthday. And that means the New York fans will get to see their favorite star in action before August 27. The 30-year-old confirmed that she is back working out on the court. And while she wants to give her leg some more time to recover, Stewart is certain of a ‘non-negotiable’ comeback timeline.
“I feel great. I just finished working out on the court in the back. And it’s really just kind of giving my leg, the bone a little bit of time while we have it. I’m on the training staff to let me be back, to free me a little bit, but definitely before my birthday, that’s a non-negotiable,” Stewart said (via CBS Sports).

Surely, this would be a major boost for the team. If the 30-year-old can indeed comeback before August 27, she might feature in a finals’ rematch against the Lynx. Meanwhile, as Stewart sat out, Sabrina Ionescu took charge. And now, she is being speculated as a probable MVP candidate.

Sabrina Ionescu Shines Amidst Breanna Stewart’s Absence
Stewart has been out of action since July 26. While the team feared the worst, Sabrina Ionescu made sure that Liberty did not falter. It is largely due to her that the team is still in the second position on the league table. And with her impressive performances day in and day out, Ionescu has now entered the MVP chat.

With the likes of Breanna Stewart nursing her injury and Napheesa Collier out for the season, Ionescu is making merry. Her latest 36-point game against the Connecticut Sun has further pushed her into MVP talks. However, for Ionescu, the primary focus is to take Liberty to the finals. Thus, with a lot going on, fans are eager to see what’s next.
