It will be a sad moment for all the Connecticut Sun fans. As they build their emotions and support surrounding the Sun’s players, all of that will be coming to an end this season. In a recent report, the Connecticut-based franchise was sold for a whopping $300 million to the Fertitta family. This means that this will be the last time the team will play in Connecticut.
However, while there are a lot of differing opinions about the Sun’s sale, the franchise is trying to ensure that they give their fans something to remember. Thus, aiming to make a strong roster, Connecticut has signed the 10-time WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner for 2026.

Brittney Griner Gets A Lucrative Contract From The Connecticut Sun
Well, Griner is just not ready to bid farewell to the sport just yet. Back in 2024, as she donned the Phoenix Mercury colors, many assumed that it would be her last dance. However, joining the Atlanta Dream last season, the veteran star failed to live up to the expectations. Yet, the 35-year-old has now signed a 7-figure deal with the Sun in their final WNBA season.
“Confirming @SheKnowsSports: 10x All-Star Brittney Griner is signing a seven-figure deal to join the Connecticut Sun, sources confirmed to ESPN. A massive get for the Sun in their final year in CT. BG is also from Houston as the Sun franchise preps to relocate to the city in 2027,” wrote Alexa Phillippou in her recent X update.

Such a decision from Connecticut is quite a brave one. Last year did not go very well for the 2014 WNBA champion. Playing in 39 games for the Dream, Griner dropped averages of 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks. Moving on, gametime was further clipped by head coach Karl Smesko, who trimmed her rotation significantly towards the end of the season.

Surprisingly, following the latest news, her previous announcement of staying with the Dream now looks like a contradiction.
Brittney Griner Promised To Stay In Atlanta Earlier

Griner has been one of the most vocal athletes in the WNBA realm. Following the CBA fiasco, she lashed out, saying that the league did not ‘value’ its players. While this statement garnered a lot of attention, she also said something that does not add up at the moment. Back in January, rumors surfaced that the Atlanta Dream might not be interested in re-signing Griner. But according to the star, she promised to stay in Atlanta.
“I’m looking forward to it. Everybody on that team, it was just easy. Basketball was the main focus; we showed up, we hooped, and that’s all you can ask for. And I’m looking forward to being there again. I’m looking forward to just being in the city. The city was amazing. They welcomed me so well, and I had a blast,” Griner said.
Surely, it is evident that her prediction was not true. Now, starting a new chapter, fans will be eager to see how things pan out.
