The Atlanta Dream has been on a roll this season. Playing some exceptional basketball, the team is looking pretty much certain for a playoff run. Dream’s historic win against Liberty fueled an award race. What’s more? Dream is also looking like a strong contender to challenge the New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx for the title. However, in a recent game, the team suffered a bit of a setback. Taking on the Las Vegas Aces, Dream lost 81-75. But even in the face of defeat, Brittney Griner stood tall.
Karl Smesko has been dealing with the team in a fantastic manner. Making the team a heavyweight contender, Smesko is making some strong waves in the Coach of the Year race. However, one of the main reasons for Smesko’s success has been Griner’s consistent form.
Brittney Griner Makes Yet Another Career Record While Atlanta Dream Stumbles
The 34-year-old has been struggling with her neck injury for a chunk of the season. But now that she is back, Griner is making her presence felt on the court. Back in late July, Griner helped Atlanta deliver the Minnesota Lynx their first season defeat. And now, just four minutes into the game against the Aces, the Dream star had a record to her name.

The 34-year-old grabbed three rebounds in the first four minutes. After her second, Griner climbed up to the 17th spot on the all-time WNBA rebounding list. She also crossed the coveted 2500 career rebounds mark in the game. And that’s not all. The Dream star is just 21 rebounds short of overtaking Swim Cash for the 16th spot. However, she is a bit far from climbing to the top spot of the list.

Tina Charles remains at number one with a staggering 4226 rebounds. Surely, this season has been impressive for the WNBA veteran. Despite the injury, Griner has averaged 10.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. And looking at her impressive form, head coach Karl Smesko has words of praise for the 34-year-old.

Karl Smesko Praises Brittney Griner’s Return To Form
The Atlanta Dream has been on a dream run for a while now. Recently, they took on the Phoenix Mercury. And this was the first game that Griner came back to the team after her neck injury. Right away, things looked quite rosy for the star. Although she played only for 13 minutes, the 34-year-old was quite impressive. Griner scored two points, two rebounds, and an assist. And such a performance seems to have pleased Smesko significantly.

“I thought BG was great. She was moving great. She looked really good out there. Defensively, she was excellent… She was controlling the paint. I thought it was a really good first game back for her,” said Smesko.
Surely, with each passing game, things are looking quite bright for Griner. And with her form improving with each day, Atlanta can now dream about a potential championship run.
