The WNBA free agency moves are on hold after the WNBA and WNBPA agreed on a free agency moratorium. But that can’t stop the rumors. While the Indiana Fever are urged to pursue Azura Stevens in free agency, they might also lose their star guard, Kelsey Mitchell. One rumor, which is gaining momentum, is a move for Brittney Griner.
The former Mercury star played in one season for the Atlanta Dream and helped them reach the playoffs. At 35, she is still one of the top defenders and rebounders, helping the team to control the game.

Britney Griner Opens Up On Trade Rumors
The player set high standards for herself, which overshadowed her performance at the Dream Team. She averaged nearly 9.8 points per game in the season, which is the lowest in her career. Even her lowest numbers were above 12 points, registered in her rookie season. The Dream side would love to have a high-scoring forward to partner with their prolific guard, Allisha Grey.
Though this puts her future with the franchise in question, she can be a defensive powerhouse and wishes to continue with the side. “I’m looking forward to it. Everybody on that team, it was just easy. Basketball was the main focus; we showed up, we hooped, and that’s all you can ask for. And I’m looking forward to being there again.”
The star added, “I’m looking forward to just being in the city. The city was amazing. They welcomed me so well, and I had a blast.”

Griner’s impact is undeniable, with her shot-blocking and wingspan helping the side control the rim. More importantly, the star chose the Dream Team because of its young core. Her championship experience and ability to hold off opponent forwards would be a key to their success.
Though her future in the WNBA is unclear, she is thriving at the Unrivaled league, which is making a strong case for the former Baylor star.
Brittney Griner Making Impact At Unrivaled
The game format demanded that young stars dominate the floor at the Unrivaled league. Still, the record setters in season 2 are mostly vets. Griner, though, hasn’t set a record, yet her performance helped her Vinyl team compete against the rest.
Griner commits to the Unrivaled League for the 2026 Season after the Atlanta Dream’s early playoff exit, which is now proving to be a perfect decision to rehash her skill and prove her worth before free agency.
