It’s only been a month since the WNBA season officially ended, and fans are eagerly awaiting the next set of action, where star women’s basketball players will compete against each other. While the closest one remains Unrivalled League, which starts from January 5, two superstars from the league, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, won’t be part of that action.
Many fans posted ‘missing WNBA’ tagging either superstar. Clark has already cleared her mission for the offseason – getting back to 100% fitness. The Sky forward wanted a break from the basketball action, yet mentioned that she missed playing the game.
Team US could fulfill everyone’s wishes with the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers games.
Angel Reese And Caitlin Clark Could Team Up for Team USA
One of the most talked about rivalries in the WNBA is between former LSU star and Iowa player, where the Reese’s famous ‘ring celebration’ made the headlines. Afterwards, Clark instead defended Reese over ‘you can’t see me taunt’.

While fans saw their competitiveness on the floor, they could now see them playing together in Team USA’s FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. New coach Kara Lawson hinted at the possible addition of the 2024 rookies to the team, giving an interview to French newspaper L’Équipe and answering questions about the possibility of tournament debuts for Reese and Clark.
“They’re really bringing something new to our sport, a kind of excitement, but also fan communities that follow them everywhere they go,” Lawson said. “And that’s great. We have a great generation of young, very talented players coming up, and I’m looking forward to working with them. “It will be good to have them in a position to play with Team USA this time and see how they gel with everyone, since there’s already so much talent.”

While fans watched them play together in the All-Star game, playing for their country will be another lever of motivation for the young stars. The FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers are drawing closer, with the competition set to begin in March.
Caitlin Clark Hinted At Team USA’s Responsibility
During the exit interview, the Fever guard discussed multiple topics, including her injury, offseason plans, and even lauded her team’s efforts to reach the semifinals of the 2025 WNBA season despite having many injuries on the roster.
She even spoke about Team USA’s commitment and emphasized the importance of preparing for the upcoming USA Basketball over an extended break. “There’s some USA basketball stuff I need to get ready for. And I need to be able to find some runs, and ways to play five-on-five, just so I can kind of get that feel back. But more than anything, I think my main focus is really just getting my body healthy,” Clark said.
Now, fans will be checking the team announcement dates, but a nearly five-month wait might feel like an eternity for those waiting to see CC and AR5 on the floor.
