The Indiana Fever will be on cloud nine at the moment. Having lost a host of leading team players, the team looked down and out. However, while most anticipated the Fever to crash out of the regular season, they are now in round two of the playoffs! And while the WNBA’s double standards got exposed during the ROY announcement disparity for Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, the Fever guard is in even more trouble.
Now then, the mood within the Fever locker room is extremely jovial. But amidst all that, Clark recently decided to address one of the biggest problems in the league this year. And immediately, the WNBA took strict action.
Caitlin Clark Finds Herself In Trouble After Her Latest Statements Against The Officiating
Officiating has been a major issue for the teams this year. Owing to the inconsistent and controversial calls by the officials, several teams voiced their frustration in the regular season. Things got so serious that personalities like Natalie Nakase highlighted the ongoing WNBA officiating issues. Likewise, in a recent comment on Instagram, the 2024 Rookie of the Year made a comment that apparently did not sit well with the league.

What the WNBA went on to do next made Clark utterly surprised. She was stunned to find out that a fine of $200 had been slapped on her for her comments. Expressing her amazement about the entire fiasco, the 23-year-old took to her X, formerly known as Twitter account, and wrote, “Got fined $200 for this lol. Before Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Too, Paid The Price Of Criticizing The Referee
Cunningham has been one of the most entertaining entities in the league. With her aggressive style of play on the court, the Fever star also had an unfiltered take on proceedings. Similarly, speaking in an episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, the 29-year-old spoke her heart out about how the officiating is not up to the mark. Immediately, the comments caught the attention of the WNBA, and Cunningham had to bear a hefty fine of $1500!

“They fined me $1,500. I’m like, ‘This is just the beginning.’ I’m like, ‘You’re kidding.’ They email our GM, and she pulls me aside and says, ‘Sophie, I’ve got to talk to you,’ and this is in front of everybody. I’m like, ‘What did I do now?’ And just smiled and she goes, ‘Hey, they’re going to fine you again,’” said Cunningham, replying to the entire fiasco later.
Despite Clark’s recent fine, the mood around Fever remains upbeat. While they brace for their next challenge, doubts regarding consistent officiating will surely linger.
