Fans were keeping a close eye on the Indiana Fever practice sessions, not to check on players’ development but to see whether Caitlin Clark is in the mix. The reason behind it was HC Stephanie white’s statement, who answered during a press conference that Clark’s injury has a grim update, and she will be back if she is able to practice with the team.
The clear message was to consider the player’s safety and well-being. But the side’s current losing run demanded the playmaker’s return to action, and fans will be pleased with the new status update.
Caitlin Clark Close To Return For On-Court Action
Multiple reports surfaced on the Fever superstar’s injury recovery. One report even suggested that Clark suffered an ankle injury while recovering from a groin injury. While the concerning report puts a question mark on her possible return date, the player’s recent activity is encouraging.

Ahead of the game against the Minnesota Lynx, the 23-year-old star participated in a non-contact drill and shootaround. Even though it was not a full-fledged practice session, she was on the court for the first time since July 15. This progress hints at reaching complete recovery. While the team was preparing for the all-important game against the league leaders at the Target Center, CC was practicing with the second unit at the other end of the floor.
The Reporter shared videos and wrote, “Caitlin Clark is participating in shootaround this morning, going through warmups, then some non-contact drills with the second team.”

She has not officially returned to practice, I’m told, but this her first time working with the team since her injury. https://t.co/xBYcjZM8zO pic.twitter.com/azG0kJ0L36

Clark missed 13 games in a row and 22 regular-season games this season. Recently, the team has struggled with a number of injuries, with multiple players, including starter Sophie Cunningham, already out for the season. With a 19-18 record, the team takes eighth place in the league standings, and more losses will knock them out of postseason contention.
An ESPN reporter hinted at August 26 as a possible return date for the former Iowa star, and with the progress, it seems very much likely. Will this be a good time for the two-time All-Star to make a return?
It Could Be A Perfect Timing For Caitlin Clark’s Return
Despite Kelsey Mitchell and a need for Aliyah Boston’s maximized role, the team’s failure to win games put them under pressure to perform on a nightly basis. The franchise has seven games left in the season, with games against the Seattle Storm, Los Angeles Sparks, and Golden State Valkyries lined up next.
These three teams are Indiana’s closest competitors for the three playoff spots. Wins over Sparks and Storm will boost the Fever’s chances to qualify as the number seven team in the league. If CC could stitch up a few more wins, they could even reach the sixth-place finish, avoiding the Lynx or the Atlanta Dream in the first round.
Yet, the maximum possible finish that Fever could attain will be sixth place, putting them against the Lynx, Dream, or in-form Aces in the opening round of the 2025 WNBA playoffs. But qualification for the postseason is important, and it seems only the return of the 2024 rookies could help the side reach that primary goal.
