Caitlin Clark is bringing the big bucks for WNBA. Owing to her skills and ability on the court, Clark has elevated herself to the ranks of a WNBA icon. And not only Clark, there are more such names who are coming up to make a strong case for themselves. Unfortunately, despite all the hard work, the finances are not flowing into the league. And that is a big problem.
Addressing the issue recently was Dave Portnoy. As the All-Star game came to a wrap, Portnoy decided to give his two cents on the disparity of income between the NBA and the WNBA athletes. And Caitlin Clark’s superfan looked quite irked.
Dave Portnoy Questions In Favor Of Equal Pay In WNBA
Dave Portnoy has long been a fan of Caitlin Clark. With the WNBA athletes rooting for a better salary cap, Portnoy went off on the ones who constantly downplayed the same. The Barstool Sports founder uploaded a video on X and stated that there was no rational explanation for women getting paid less than men.
“I don’t know how anybody in the world with a brain, and maybe my brain is just bigger than most, can rationally say women don’t deserve more money at this point,” said Portnoy. (via X/@stoolpresidente)

Portnoy next pointed out how some of the salaries in the WNBA were incredibly low. As a reference, he took Clark’s rookie salary, which was a mere $76,000. Portnoy went on to say that this was significantly lower than what the likes of Ben Mintz and Nicky Smokes made at Barstool. According to a report from DirecTV, the 2024 average WNBA salary stood at $147,745.
Despite concerns over the WNBA losing money, Portnoy believes that the league is ‘exploding’ at the moment. Meanwhile, with the situation getting quite tense, the WNBA stars have resorted to Nobel Prize winner Claudia Godin for help.

WNBA Stars Turn To Nobel Laureate For CBA Negotiations
The WNBA is growing fast. And the athletes are now wanting their share of the cream. During the warm-ups of the All-Star game, the WNBA stars could be seen wearing ‘Pay Us What You Owe Us’ shirts. With the athletes opting out of the CBA back in 2022, the calls for equal pay are growing louder. And to get a better hold of the situation, the athletes are seeking some expert help. And it comes in the form of Claudia Godin, who won the Nobel Prize in economics in 2023.

According to a stat, the NBA gives back 51% of its revenue to the players. However, the numbers in the WNBA are much lower, between 20% and 25%. Thus, with a lot of complications, it now remains to be seen what will happen next.
