The WNBA always brings in excitement with surprises and players’ gameplays. While trade is part of this excitement, some pieces are often seen as ‘unmovable players – like A’ja Wilson from Las Vegas Aces, Caitlin Clark from Indiana Fever and Paige Bueckers from Dallas Wings.
The reigning champion is at her prime and has already proved herself as the franchise player; two rookies also delivered for their sides and quickly became the face of the franchise. CC has multiple records with an unforgettable first season in the league; the Buckers won the Rookie of the Year award with similar flair. But now, the Wings GM sent a shockwave across the league with his comments about the trade for the top picks.

Caitlin Clark And Paige Bueckers’ Trade Speculations Explained By Curt Miller
The top picks of specific eras remained game changers for the franchises, landing the generational talents of the draft class. Tina Thompson, Sue Bird, Dana Taurasi, Candace Parker, and Maya Moore have been past successful additions to the league, with their respective franchises winning titles behind their star players.
Similarly, in active players, Wilson, Clark, and Bueckers are irreplaceable assets to their teams, and Curt Miller jokes about the same after landing the 2026 first overall pick. Drake Keeler of IX Sports reported that Wings GM Curt Miller said he “already received more calls about potential trades for the #1 pick in the upcoming draft than he did in the lead-up to the 2025 draft.”

The Wings’ GM added, “The Cailtin Clark draft, there was not going to be a trade, Paige [Bueckers] was not going to be traded, but it will be interesting, and it makes our job fun to listen to those phone calls that come in for the #1 pick. And we’ll do what’s best for our franchise.”

Miller highlighted the point that every team knew they wouldn’t have traded the Paige Bueckers pick last year, and the same goes for the Indiana Fever, who chose the Iowa star without hesitation. With their game, the players brought in the star power and popularity alone would’ve made it hard to trade those picks.
There is, however, one team where the two megastars play together and have won multiple championships.
Caitlin Clark And Paige Bueckers Could Play For One Team
At the collegiate level, the UConn and Iowa stars played against each other, which were high-octane games by far. Similarly, they shared the floor only once in the WNBA, due to CC’s injury, and shone for their respective teams. But they join forces at Team USA, where the backcourt duo has already won multiple titles for the country.

In the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifier games, both players may be selected for the team again, as they have received an invitation to the training camp. Angel Reese will also join the camp, potentially forming a young core for the future of the USA team.
Veronica Burton also gets a training camp call along with Lauren Betts, JuJu Watkins, Kiki Iriafen, and Sonia Citron. With the stacked young lineup, Team USA will have a few Olympians strengthening the squad.
