The WNBA Finals results might have been different had Kelsey Mitchell played a full game against the Las Vegas Aces in Game 5. She was clinical and decisive in the game, but Mitchell left Game 5 with an injury, and the Indiana Fever struggled at a crucial time. Yet, many applauded her fighting spirit and the efforts she put on the floor in the absence of Caitlin Clark.
For her performances, Mitchell created history, earning a spot in the All-WNBA First team, and she also finished fourth in the MVP voting. Although it was an impressive season, the player shared an emotional post on social media.
Caitlin Clark Reacts To Kelsey Mitchell’s Post
After exiting the WNBA semifinals, many Fever players shared their sweet memories with the team and the incredible season. Veteran Natasha Howard shared an emotional post as she didn’t want the season to end. KM also shared an emotional post, but for a different reason.

In her post, she wrote, “had to get to it differently than everybody else. grief had me excited for a small piece of it… indifferent for majority of it. charged it ALL to the game. ain’t no life jacket come for me, word to Him. Pops blueprint kept me in survival mode… that survival made me. i don’t know what it all really meant…. just that it meant i stood on all 10 about it. the motto remains: shut up and go hunting. zero, gone.”
The 29-year-old guard lost her father in 2024, who was a major influence on her life and career. Knowing the depth of the message, Caitlin Clark replied with a proud feeling and wrote, “So lucky to be your teammate!!! Proud of you Kels.”

In the absence of the 2024 rookie, Mitchell carried the team’s offensive load and had her career-best season, scoring at an average of 20.2 points per game. Mitchell even set the WNBA scoring record during the semifinal game against the Aces.
Mitchell hinted at an uncertain future with the Fever team during her exit interview, but the management is looking to extend her contract. However, in the end, a few Fever players will have to leave the team, and CC was honest about those departures.
Caitlin Clark Gets Honest About Possible Departures From Indiana Fever in 2026
While KM remains a key member of the Indiana Fever side and the front office is looking to lock in the guard for another season, a few departures are certain from the side. The Fever had 17 players on the roster due to multiple season-ending injuries among its players.
Now, as per the WNBA roster cap, they will have to let go of a minimum of five players, which could be a difficult decision for the management, considering the role played by every member in the 2025 season. Understanding this, the 2024 rookie put up her honest opinion on the ff season decision as she spoke with Aerial Powers on her Vlog.
“Every player that’s come in, and you especially, like you’ve made it so fun, and we’ve loved having you. And, um, you know, obviously not everybody can stay cause we had 17 people on our team. So, no matter who it is, like, you know, you cherish those memories you got to spend with each other,” Clark said.
In many post-game interviews, Stephanie White spoke about the team chemistry and bond that kept them going in the difficult times. But 2026 might be a different side altogether, with 14 players entering the free agency at the end of October. Fans will be hoping to see Kelsey Mitchell in the Fever jersey next time for sure, after her stellar 2025 season.
